Has anybody had negative lateral flow tests that became positive?

DP took one on Friday night and it was negative, did another this morning and still negative.

Can we safely conclude that it is indeed negative? Sorry if silly question but he does seem pretty unwell.

My daughter was exposed Wednesday night, had negatives Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning, got a headache Saturday afternoon and a positive lft Saturday evening.

There's a latent period of about 3-5 (or 10!) days while the virus replicates enough to be detected.

If he has symptoms he needs a PCR test not a lateral flow. Lateral flows are for asymptomatic cases only and even then they only pick up 70% of cases.

Thanks. Where can I get a PCR test, please? Thanks again.

My husband had a negative lateral flow an hour before he had a PCR. The PCR was positive. Negative lateral flows are about 50/50 (positives are approx 99% accurate).

@ElderflowerRose

Thanks. Where can I get a PCR test, please? Thanks again.
Just Google PCR tests near me and locations / time slots will come up. Hopefully you will be able to get one very soon

Hope your DH is ok, and you too!

Get a PCR. I did 2 LFTs and a PCR this weekend. (I am asymptomatic, I tested due to someone I work with testing positive). LFTs were both negative, PCR was positive.

ElderflowerRose · 15/08/2021 15:07

We can’t. He’s not well enough to go out so unsure what to do next. Thanks though.

You can order home testing kits.

ElderflowerRose · 15/08/2021 15:10

Yes, could do with knowing sooner rather than later.

Definitely do the PCR test. My DD tested negative on LFT 3 days in a row last week then tested positive on PCR.
Do you drive? Is there a drive through test centre near you? Might be an option if he's not well enough to walk and you don't want to wait for a test to be posted to you.
