Self Isolation Rule Changes 16th August for + people?

WTFIsTheAnswerToThis · 12/08/2021 05:14

If anyone knows the answer to this I would be very grateful as I can't find this specific circumstance anywhere on the gov website etc!

DD is 18 and has had her first vaccination end of June and was booked in for her second. In the meantime she felt unwell and tested positive on Fri 6th Aug. (Her second vaccination date is now delayed to 3rd September, the earliest date she is eligible for jab after a + result) As a household we know we have to isolate until 16th August.

In the meantime I have felt fucking horrendous unwell and did a PCR yesterday. I'm waiting for results but had same symptoms as DD and + LFT so looking likely.

If + I know I would have to SI for further 10 days after first symptoms (so 20th Aug). I also know the rule changes on 16th August mean double jabbed household members (at least two weeks after second jab) could still end close contact self isolation on 16th August even if I am positive.

But can DD end her self isolation still on 16th as she is not double jabbed? Or does she have to do a full isolation period as a close contact of a positive person ie me as she isn't double jabbed? Even though she has literally just had Covid?

I can see in the rules there is a leeway period of 6 months after 18th birthday to allow them time to get jabs. (DD is 18 and 8 months but couldn't get an earlier date for her first jab Hmm) But there is nothing about half jabbed 18 year olds who have just had bloody Covid.

I may well be missing some obvious answer but can't seem to find it and 119 were fucking useless when I rang them earlier. My head is pounding and I can't seem to think clearly and DD can't find a straight answer either.

Any advice gratefully received!

@Piggywaspushed "Is that because it's in the school guidelines colette? School students have always had different rules with stuff." I don't think it's that particularly. The law is the law, guidelines don't trump the law. But I haven't separately checked any of the Acts or legislations relating directly to schools recently. But communication is everything, and we all know this govt has been shockingly bad at that at times. And I guess it also doesn't stop large organisations having their own additional rules at times or coming under pressure from their relevant departments either. The balance of power always lies with them over the individual anyway.

Technical term for that is litotes ! Grin

WTFIsTheAnswerToThis · 12/08/2021 08:04

Oooh I like learning new words Smile

I did an LFT on Monday and it came up positive straight away (I also did another hoping it was faulty and the same...)

I'm waiting for GCSE results to be emailed as well as PCR results, I feel very stressed and trying to distract myself!

OP posts:
Piggywaspushed · 12/08/2021 08:08

Stress definitely doesn't help, but also totally unavoidable because it is stressful!

JanglyBeads · 12/08/2021 11:11

How’s that is a lot of email stress OP! Take care.

It is ridiculous that it’s so complicated.

But also that many people aren’t isolating now, even if they themselves are positive!

oneranksenior · 12/08/2021 11:31

ColettesEarrings do you know for sure that people currently isolating because of a close contact, who are double jabbed will have their isolation stopped on the 16th?
I am in this position DD got PCR result this morning, I get a text from T&T to say I have to self-isolate until and including 21st. I rang 119 to check as T&T wouldn't know my vaccination status. I was told they hadn't received instructions yet, but they were 90% certain I would have to do the full isolation period. He said when a travel change has been made (don't know what that was),people currently isolating had to continue isolating for the whole of their period, but people who arrived back or what ever after the change didn't need to isolate.
I am in England, however in Wales where this came in on the 7th, T&T said people could be released from isolation straightway.
I just want to know as this is the third isolation I've done, first with a covid positive in the house though. I'm going through a nasty separation and the thought of being stuck indoors with STBX may send me over the edge!

Piggywaspushed · 12/08/2021 11:36

They won't. Pretty sure colette was going form the date of OP's DD's case. Don't want to speak on her behalf. If you were told to isolate today, for example, you'd be in til the 21st... is what I have been told.

Sunnyfreezesushi · 12/08/2021 11:37

People who have had a Covid positive Pcr result in U.K. in the last [3/or 6] months should be exempt from self isolation too. That would cover the young. Other countries are doing it too, so should we. Also those who have had Covid plus double vaccination really should not need boosters, might increase side effects dramatically.

ColettesEarrings · 12/08/2021 11:56

@oneranksenior @Piggywaspushed Yes it will be stopped. The legislation is clear, and the publicity material on the govt website is clear now too.

www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2021/851/regulation/2/made
(9) After regulation 18, insert—

“Transitional provision
19. Where—

(a)a person (“Y”)—
(i)satisfies the conditions in regulation 2B(6)(a), (b) or (c), or is a child, and
(ii)is subject to the self-isolation requirement in regulation 2B(2) or (3) immediately before 16th August 2021, and
(b)Y’s period of self-isolation would, apart from this regulation, continue beyond that date,
the period of self-isolation for Y comes to an end at the beginning of 16th August 2021.”.

www.gov.uk/government/news/self-isolation-removed-for-double-jabbed-close-contacts-from-16-august
"Notes to editors
The following groups of people identified as close contacts will no longer be required to self-isolate. If their self-isolation period began before 16 August and was due to end after 16 August, they will be able to leave self-isolation on 16 August."

Piggywaspushed · 12/08/2021 12:06

Wow, OK. That's not what I have read in loads of places! Thanks.

oneranksenior · 12/08/2021 12:08

ColettesEarrings you've made me very happy! My employer may well want me to take next week off too. They did when I was isolating after returning from Italy March 2020, and the isolation period was reduced. It just means I can get out of the house. I may well get covid in the meantime of course, DD is ill so she's in bed but she's a great fan of Dettol. I'm masked up in the house and am doing daily LFTs and have a PCR on order so fingers crossed.

WTFIsTheAnswerToThis · 12/08/2021 14:27

That is very useful info thank you @ColettesEarrings.

Well in the last three hours I have had SEVEN emails from test and trace and five texts. Hmm I have been sorting out GCSE results (which were good considering the year we have had, and DC has SN) in addition to feeling like shit, so the volume of chasing is really annoying me.

OP posts:
WTFIsTheAnswerToThis · 12/08/2021 14:33

My last post is ironic given we were discussing stress not helping! It really isn't though and I could do without so many emails and text notifications! We also had two lots of A level results yday and went through clearing for one - I now have a whirl of start dates and course dates and hall dates and deposit dates in my head. It was like a fucking labyrinth! My parents both died within the last two months and I feel so sad we can’t tell them DCs results as they would have been so happy. We are also in the midst of sorting their estate etc and this is all being delayed now.

DD feels a bit guilty as she is clearly Patient Zero Smilein the house and I am CEV. (She should feel no guilt and I have told her this!) If DH catches it from me he won't be able to start new job lined up next week which will be awful financially for us.

I keep saying this year can't get any worse and then it does!

@Piggywaspushed

Wow, OK. That's not what I have read in loads of places! Thanks.
Plenty of threads on here have this correct information.

I am sure you have read it before both from me and Colette.

Piggywaspushed · 12/08/2021 14:54

I am clear now, thank you. Not sure why you are being quite so spiky.

oneranksenior · 12/08/2021 15:13

I rang 119 this morning to ask about coming out of isolation on 16th and was told the opposite to the information ColettesEarrings has found and linked too. I am very grateful to have the legislation to refer to and show employers etc.

WTFIsTheAnswerToThis · 13/08/2021 09:04

119 were absolutely useless when I rang them. MN is much more knowledgeable - I should have just asked here first Also the first PCR I received was missing the vial/tube with the liquid in and the kit arrived in a pink mailing bag as though it was a parcel of second hand clothes bought from eBay. Very odd.

How are you this morning @Piggywaspushed and how is your DD @oneranksenior?

This morning I can't smell anything either. I feel as though the force of gravity has doubled and heavy weights are tied to my head and legs and arms. I can't even summon the energy to play with the cats...

Piggywaspushed · 13/08/2021 09:07

Thanks for asking OP. Bit brighter. Today's problem is feeling faint constantly!

FlatteredFool · 13/08/2021 10:07

Following with interest and a get well soon message Thanks

oneranksenior · 13/08/2021 17:27

Thank you for asking WTF DD's 3rd day in bed, but she is eating. Sore throat and loss of taste. DH has taken a walk-in PCR - negative so he's gone out for a walk, when of course he should still be self-isolating!!
I've had a PCR delivered but won't use it until I know when I will be back at work. I want to be able to say I've just got a clear test result. Having a clear result today would mean nothing next week.

Frazzled2207 · 13/08/2021 19:06

I think as over 18 and not double vaccinated yet technically she could have to self isolate again (until 2 weeks after her second jab) but in her shoes I wouldn’t be doing so.
Bloody ridiculous that there is no exemption for people who’ve just had covid!
