Has anyone had a negative lateral flow and a positive pcr in the same day?

The GP refused to see my hubby with chest infection even though he had done several LFT in the few days prior. She said that LFT are pointless esp if you have any type of symptoms x

Well done for being perfect.

You 'can't ' get a PCR test for a stomach bug or a 'cold' right now, if you follow the nonsensical rules, so how would OP know?

OP is being safe, even if not up to your exacting standards.[/quote]
If perfect is defined by knowing the difference between when you take a LFT or a PCR then I'll take that, thanks

It's a ridiculously low bar for perfection though, there are millions us going to qualify.

Genuine question - do you really not know the difference?

Yes I had negative lateral flows then a positive PCR. I did the PCR as I had been a contact of someone who went on to test positive. Lateral flow only tested positive when I had been symptomatic for 4 days.

Darbs76 · 09/08/2021 20:01

Well my lateral flow was negative for days when my symptoms started but I didn’t do a PCR for 5 days (by then lateral flows turning positive). PCR was positive. Worth doing as others have said they are more sensitive

Merlotthegreat · 09/08/2021 20:12

Currently having a headache and nausea doesn’t allow you to order a PCR, if you follow the website- I’d do the same and just do a LFT as they’re lying around at home…nothing wrong with that?!

Anyway, yes I tested negative on the LFT but did a pcr anyway due to being a close contact. PCR came back positive. Both tests were done on the same day.
LFT are only 60% accurate, I believe, so the PCR is definitely more reliable.

mmmmmchocolate · 09/08/2021 20:12

I didn’t get a positive lateral flow until the 6th day and it was faint, the PCR on day 5 was positive. Headache was my first symptom, I had nausea after about day 3 and an upset stomach for most of the time I was ill- and after the 10 days. My dc’s never had testable symptoms (except one DD had a temp) although I did get all 3 symptoms eventually.

Hope you feel better soon.

My son did yes.

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 09/08/2021 20:25

@caughtinanet - I assume your question is for OP, but in my case; I work from home, I don't have school aged children, I'd never had to take a lateral flow until last week.

So I don't find it hard to accept that people seek reassurance about when and how to test, no.

Summer20twentyone · 09/08/2021 20:26

My son did too .. last week. Neg LFT in the morning positive PCR in the afternoon.

I'm not sure why the op is getting such a hard time - you can't even book a Covid test with those symptoms!!

Wombat64 · 09/08/2021 20:26

Yep, my neighbour did a couple of days ago.

Summersdreaming · 09/08/2021 20:30

Me, if in any doubt do a PCR don't rely on LFT only.

refusetobeasheep · 09/08/2021 20:35

anyone know how long pcr results are taking to come back currently?

Summer20twentyone · 09/08/2021 22:00

Son tested at 8.30am results back at 4am
We tested at 2pm results back at 7am
