Loads of symptoms loads of negative tests

Hi,
I have so many covid symptoms... a streaming nose, painful sinuses, a headache, have totally lost my sense of smell and taste and have an awful, dry cough with an infuriating tickle. Temperature of 37.7 though. I feel dreadful, drained and like my face is going to explode.

I've done 3 x lateral flow tests - all negative and a PCR which was negative too.

I'm convinced I have covid. It's the loss of smell and taste. I'm eating mentos sweets and can tell they are sweet if that makes sense but not what the different flavours are. I couldn't smell DD's dirty nappy earlier. I've never had this before.

DH sailed merrily out of the door to work after my negative PCR leaving me struggling with DD feeling so unwell. I don't feel I can see my mum, dad or friends for a bit of respite in case I do have it and these tests are wrong 😞

What now? Wait til I feel better? Go for another PCR?!

I had the same symptoms you described and tested negative for lateral flow and pcr. I just carried on, the only way you will find out is having an antibody test in the future.

I’ve had several bad colds in the past, and lost my sense of smell and taste. It’s not exclusive to Covid.

HereWeGoAgain24 · 09/08/2021 16:10

I've known many people have a negative PCR followed by a positive. I would isolate and get another test ASAP.

LFTs aren't designed for us with symptomatic people but rather to wean out the asymptotic.

It may well just be another infection of some sort, we do seem to forget many others exist other than covid.

chesirecat99 · 09/08/2021 16:12

Did you do all the tests yourself? It could be your technique. Also, DS (single vaccinated) didn't get a positive test for 48 hours despite having strong symptoms. They aren't that accurate.

It could just be another nasty bug. TBH, you are probably doing everyone a favour by staying home and not passing it on if you feel that unwell. I would wait until you feel better. Your DH should be helping out though.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I did all the tests myself yes but as thoroughly as possible.

I have also had covid- a year ago I tested positive after a PCR and I'm double jabbed.

I just feel so so awful 😔

Sounds like you’ve got a bad cold. I have had many like that before Covid existed.

fedup078 · 09/08/2021 17:13

Had many a cold like this pre and post Covid . I've had more colds in the last 2 years than ever before with a dc now at nursery

Megan2018 · 09/08/2021 17:16

My toddler DD and I had the virus from hell recently-high fever, cough, the works.
It wasn’t Covid. It’s still possible to be very unwell with other things.

fedup078 · 09/08/2021 17:44

@Megan2018 ditto, we spent last weekend in hospital with ds and then I caught it but it's just an annoying cold for me

fedup078 · 09/08/2021 17:46

Correct me if I'm wrong but most likely every cold we catch is a different variant to the last one so they will all be worse or milder than others. I can remember all sorts of different extremes from full on flu to slight sniffles and everything in between

Bobholll · 09/08/2021 18:21

I’m feeling VILE at the mo. I’ve got the sore throat from hell, cough, sinus pain, headache, I’ve lost my voice& my taste is off. Not gone but just slightly different. I’m also quite snotty .. my kids have all had it & my OH. All of our many LFTs & PCR’s have been negative.

Unfortunately covid presents like a lot of other shitty viruses .. I would maybe re-test in a couple days & if you feel that rotten, you’ll probably be staying at home anyway!

HSHorror · 09/08/2021 18:28

Op ive got i think a sinus infection
Cough
Very very blocked nose
Head pressure
Felt like ear drums would burst

No fever
No aches and pains

I got it from swimming

glowingtwig · 09/08/2021 19:44

Thanks everyone. Maybe it is just a grim cold then. Dd is at nursery... she only does one day in the holidays but I'm thinking it's not worth it for the constant illnesses she brings home. I'd happily sacrifice the £65 a week to not have a miserable, snotty toddler and to not feel like this myself!
Might be quite nice to have 6 weeks off from it all!

I've just got over a similar sinus thing. Also not Covid. My sinuses were so inflamed and I couldn't shake it off until I got a mild steroid hay fever nasal spray. That sorted my sinuses in a couple of days
