My mum thinks that I'm reading the new rules wrongly, so I immediately came here to be put right if necessary.

We're trying to plan a short trip to France with two children in September. I think that under new rules:

  1. Double vacc'ed adults fine to get into France WITHOUT taking test, if we have vaccination proof. Kids fine.
  1. We need to book Day 2 tests ONLY (£20 ish each) before we leave UK
  1. Get a PCR test at airport/similar in France before departure (anyone know how much this is?)

Thanks MN

Test and trace are checking on quarantining people. Not the PCR results.

Did you see in the media today all the piles of Randox tests overflowing the drop boxes? They’re not being collecting. The tests are being done on time. The government don’t seem to care.
As long as you’ve paid the money for the test and have the code.

Collected.

Delatron · 09/08/2021 20:54

Jesus auto correct. The tests aren’t being processed on time. Nobody is checking.

This is helpful and I'm tempted to use the £28 one now.

As above. This day 2 thing is really the biggest “tick boxing” farce of the whole travel situation. As long as you’ve completed a passenger locator form with your test code as far as the government are concerned, job’s a goodun. If that test doesn’t ever get processed by the company you send it to they don’t know or care - the reference which says you’ve ordered one is all they want. The £28 one is from the government’s own list of providers which they say meet their guidelines. If they are happy with that, then so am I (and like PP says - even the far more expensive randox ones are having plenty of issues).

Obviously if you were using a service to test and release or needed a day 2 and then a day 8 to end quarantine I’d be looking for a provider who could guarantee excellent service. But for day 2 only, go for the cheapest.

So will anyone come back to say that the booking reference on the PLF has never been completed? (If using a shambolic cheap service.)

Am I reading it correctly, or are the ones on the Expert Medicals site linked to earlier ONLY for vaccinated people?
