COVID-19 jab and sore armpit with small lump?

SleepIsForTheDeadAppar · 08/08/2021 07:46

Good morning,

I had my my Covid jab on Friday 6th August (right arm) and since yesterday evening I have had a sore armpit and if I press into my right armpit I can feel what seems like a small lump.

Obviously, my mind is racing to the worst outcome of the vile C (I’m bit of a worrier) but then I’ve read online that there has been some reports of sore armpit/lumps in that region after the Covid jab.

Has anyone experienced anything like this or similar? I was going to call the doctor Monday but I’m not sure if I should wait if this is a common thing?

Thanks! :)

I haven't, but swollen lymph nodes are fairly common from the covid vaccines, so it's most likely that, and it's more common on the vaccinated side. There isn't anything you can do if it's that except wait for it to go, but if you're concerned then call your GP who can check it for you.

It’s almost certainly a swollen lymph node which is completely normal. I understand your worry because I had the same after my second jab and I have a history of Hodgkin lymphoma so I’m really paranoid about lumps in my armpit.

It went away after about a week. If yours doesn’t go away definitely call the doctor but I would give it a few days and try not to worry. It’s a sign your immune system is working.

DinosaurDiana · 08/08/2021 07:52

It’s highly likely to be a lymph node, and the more you poke at it, the more bruised and sore you will make it.
Take some painkillers and leave it alone.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 08/08/2021 07:52

Yes I had this with my 1st dose, it went down gradually over about a week or so

user159 · 08/08/2021 07:54

Me and my sibling both had this after our second jab. Quite alarming at first so I called the doctor who assured me it should be fine and within a week it had gone. GP called back a week later to confirm it had gone down and said they'd heard this a lot. General advice was if it hasn't subsided within a week then seek medical help

Mine did this but then turned into a big lump, was like having a ping pong ball under my arm! It went away after a few days so I'd say take painkillers and don't poke it.

Oh no! That sounds pretty uncomfortable 😣 I’m glad it’s all went away though and it was just down to the Covid jab :)

Ahh yeah, mine sore armpit and lump has appeared after my second jab too. I’ll try and push it to the back of my mind for a few days and see how it goes. If not I’ll bell the doctor :)

I had this and had the same instant fear, but Google for once was informative and helped quell disaster scenarios: it’s really common after the jab.

I just stopped wearing underwire bras for a week as it was pretty sore, but it did go down eventually.

I’m more convinced that it highly is a lymph node and it sounds like a lot of people has had the exact same thing. I’ve stopped poking and prodding (what does it even achieve anyway 🙈) I’ll see how it goes :) thanks!

Yeah I’ve decided to ditch the underwire bra for now until it’s feeling better :) it’s reassuring to know that others has experienced this too and it turned out to be nothing serious!

I had this too - fecking sore for a good few days but then stopped. Not a big deal.

Thoughtcontagion · 08/08/2021 09:04

I had this after my second dose of pzifer went after a few days.

I had this after my second Pfizer jab. It went away on its own in a few days.

HarrietOh · 08/08/2021 10:49

I got this after my first moderna jab, went away after a couple of days. Didn’t get it after second jab.

FlagsFiend · 08/08/2021 10:57

If you are on the ZOE app it is one of the options for side effects after the vaccine - there is a list of possible things to tick, so possibly fairly common post-vaccine. I'd keep an eye on it and if it doesn't go away in a few days/week then contact your GP.

Ormally · 08/08/2021 12:13

Something similar happened to myself and a colleague (older, male) but on the inner elbow joint, and both times more than a week afterwards. I thought that was almost too long after the jab so was mystified, but it seems not and things got back to normal.

Watsername · 08/08/2021 12:33

Yes, my arm pit was very sore and I had several swollen lymph nodes after 2nd Pfizer. Also I had very bad breast pain (it woke me in the night after the jab) which I assume was also a lymph node. It all settled in about a week. I took painkillers for a few days.

I had a mammogram 4 weeks later and did mention it as I had read that the swollen lymph nodes might be visible, but they had gone back to normal :) the radiographer said they have had lots of ladies come in recently because of swollen glands after the jab.

I would see how you are in a few weeks and if they are still a problem then see your gp.

Watsername · 08/08/2021 12:35

Oh, and I think it shows your body is working very well and producing lots of lovely antibodies x

Definitely seems like a common thing then and although it isn’t very nice, I am glad I’m not the only going/gone through it so it calms my little overthinking brain down 🙈 I’ll see how it goes, take painkillers and go from there. Thank you for sharing your experience. X

Are you in England? You should have got a leaflet called what to expect after your covid vaccination. On page 4 it says its a side effect and to see gp if not resolved after 10 days and tell them if you are having a mammogram in the next few weeks.

Provencerose · 08/08/2021 18:44

I had exactly the same thing a couple of days after the first dose of Pfizer- a lump and pain in my armpit when lying on that side. It went away after about a week.

A slight lump and ache after the second dose but not as bad
