What’s going on with case numbers?

Has anyone seen any good explanation of the trends in case numbers over the last few weeks?

Why did they start tumbling back down so suddenly (when lots of people were suggesting they would keep on going up)?

Why do they seem to have started ticking back up again?

I think the zoe app disputes that there was any drop in figures

Less testing.

The gov website shows number of tests daily as well as daily cases. The tests have dropped by a bit but not at the same rate as cases- eg there was a week when they dropped by about 20% and number of tests had dropped by about 9% so it's not just that
There are more accurate measures as well that are showing cases are levelling off regardless of testing

Tests have dropped a lot due to when a child got sent home to isolate, the whole family were testing at the same time, which some schools suggested. It also picked up a lot of cases where the families had no symptoms and otherwise would not have tested.
