Do you have to complete the isolation when new contacts won't have to from that date or do you stop.

My friend is on day 6 isolation but tomorrow morning in wales the rules change. We can't find info anywhere that says whether it's a case of 'you started under the old rules so you need to finish or whether all need to isolate as contacts stops tonight.

In England, no. The requirement to isolate ends on 16th August so that will stop any isolations that are already in train at that point. Contacts will be asked to take a PCR test instead.

Is your friend Boris Johnson? If yes then he doesn’t need to isolate at all Hmm

Don't think you have to complete isolation - when the rules change they are immediately applied to those already self isolating. Back in December, when isolation period reduced to 10 days, DD was self isolating as a close contact. When rules changed she got a text saying her self isolation period had been reduced
