Walk-in vaccinations - how to find one in five seconds

Because I keep hearing people say that they can't book any local appointments on the website...

Nearly all vaccine hubs are now doing walkups. You/your young adult kids don't need to book. Just put your postcode into this govt website, and it will tell you where you can get jabbed straight away, without an appointment. Even if the same hub doesn't appear to have any appointments on the main booking site. If you/they have an NHS number to hand, they'll appreciate it when you get to the hub, but if you don't, they'll still be able to find you on their systems (I'm a volunteer and when I'm on reception I book walk-ins as well as appointments, with or without the NHS no)

Seriously, I don't know why this link isn't being plastered all over social media/billboards/TV ads. They've changed to walk-ins to encourage young people to get the jab. But they haven't actually bothered telling them about it.

Please tell your friends and families. Because I honestly think the young ones are more likely to get jabbed if they can just do it on a whim with their mates one day, rather than have to wait for an appointment.

I mean that isn’t very accurate for me, it isn’t showing any of the walk in clinics in my area which I know are open

But good to look on your local
CCG webpage or even their Instagram/Twitter as they update a lot on there

Exactly. I have been trying to book through the normal NHS site and I don't remember anywhere it saying that these centres have become walk in. It just kept saying no appointments available. Thanks again op.

It’s not accurate - it shows the nearest venue as 23 miles away. The nearest place is actually 2 minutes walk from my house

Our nearest is 30 miles away according to gov.uk. And says it won’t accept 16 yo (all the search results say 18+). So confusing, when it was in the news a few days ago all gung ho about getting 16 and 17 yo jabbed.

Thanks. I’ve been Googling to try and find something like this.

My nearest vaccine centre is closed for a week and I’m due a second jab!

So I wanted a walk in.

My nearest one is 14 miles away. It’s disgraceful actually - the lack of decent public transport makes it difficult for so many people.

That link misses all the local walk-ins for South West London, which can be instead found here: swlondonccg.nhs.uk/covid/where-can-you-get-vaccinated/vaccination-walk-in-clinics/. (In fairness, SW London seem to offer appointments too.)

I would advise anyone to search for their CCG information online. If they can't find something local then this would be a good thread to ask for the information.

Does anyone know when the 17 and 9 months ones will be accepted? I know the 16+ will be in about a month.

I've booked DD2 (17 yrs old) in with our surgery for Tues as they're running specific clinics for 16 and 17 yr olds.

Some people would still like to book an appointment though, seemingly very difficult to do that now when at the beginning it was the opposite!

I'm glad to hear it! That's the one media that I don't partake of. I'm just surprised that it's not on social media (which I am active on) since that's surely the best way to reach younger people, or on TV.

It's a shame the link isn't up to date for some of you. Hopefully it will be updated soon. For my area it's 100% accurate so I hadn't considered that it might be substantially inaccurate elsewhere.

It also said the race was on to get them jabbed before the return to school. Mine goes back in less than 4 weeks. So they’d better get a move on!!

It's right for me, except the nearest is 17 miles away not 13 miles (road vs. straight line?). The walk-in centre with hours was posted a lot on local facebook is how I found out about it.

Not all GP sites are on the National booking system. If there’s nothing close to you, see if your local site has a Facebook page or as mentioned by a PP, your local CCG will have a social media presence/website.

I think - from bitter experience - that they're going to need to tackle some red tape before they can open to 16/17yos

Many centres will not do u18s at present, but despite putting dob into online booking link (for a medically entitled teen) the bookings we were offered were at centres which did not do u18s at all, and who said they were turning away lots of (correctly entitled) teens from their appointments.

If they do not sort this out, so that 16/17s can book only at places which do that age group, then there's going to be the most awful muddle and the number of wasted appointments will rocket (annoyingly, they record you as DNA even when you are there and pleading for the appointment to be carried out and it it them saying 'no' and knowing it's happening frequently - misreporting is hardly going to highlight that there's an issue that needs fixing)
