Can someone please help me out with Self Isolation dates

Name changed for this. I took DC to an outdoors event last Thursday and they were joined by their best friend and their mum. Yesterday dc's friend woke up with a high temperature and a cough and as far as I am aware they didn't have any symptoms before but I am not sure. I dont know if they will take a pcr test but I am guessing that they will. If friend tests positive for covid how many days are we likely to have to isolate as in when would our isolation period end? (This would make a good SATS exam question! 🤔).

Please can someone who knows advise me. Thank you Flowers

I am kind of worried that we'll have to Self Isolate and I am hoping my 10 days dont start from yesterday or date of positive result if there is one.

I thought it was contacts in the 48 hours leading up to day 0 (ie the day symptoms showed or, if asymtomatic, LFT was positive)

So from a week ago, you shouldn't need to isolate.

If its 10 days from date of contact that not too bad that should take me to Saturday.

You will only need to isolate if you have been in contact in the 48 hrs before symptoms started so you’ll be fine.

10 days from the day they had contact, calling Friday, day 1.

Find out for sure if they're getting a PCR or not.

You wouldn't need to isolate. The child and whoever has been in contact with child two days before symptoms showed (Mon) would need to isolate. You saw them a week ago. Don't worry.

If it was last Thursday you don't need to isolate!

You’re contact with them was a week ago and they developed symptoms yesterday? You don’t need to isolate at all.

You don’t need to, it’s only contact in the 48hr before symptoms (or positive test if no symptoms) and has been all along.

The two day before guidance is already on the gov website so you shouldn't have to isolate at all.

From next Monday contacts don’t need to isolate at all.

You are thinking of the change being made to the app which was originally pinging people in contact up to 5 days ago and that’s now being changed to 2. Test and trace on other hand has only ever contacted people from up to 48 hours before symptoms/test.

Either way, you don’t need to isolate.

This is the rule as it's always been - close contacts in the 48 hours leading up to the day when symptoms began. (The bit about positive LFT day also being Day0 was added when tests became readily available)

If T&T tell you, then it's a legal requirement, but if you know you are a close contact then there's a moral imperative even before T&T make the call.

Why is everyone so desperate to isolate? You don't need to - you saw them a week ago and symptoms didn't start till yesterday! You are clear by 4 days.

@littlepeas believe me, isolating is the last thing I want. We are quite isolated as it is! Just the thought of dc being stuck indoors just when the weather is likely to get a bit better next week fills me with sorrow. I am so happy that we won't have to isolate.

I didn't mean to post that, I went away to look at the actual legislation re how many days prior to symptoms showing they were now saying 'counted' as I heard something about it being 5 days...

Then I realised it was a week ago your DC saw their friends.

I don't think you need to isolate at all, definitely not legally, not even morally. Unless other members of their family have had Covid, then personally I'd stay home until Monday, just to be totally sure.
