AstraZeneca vaccine in pregnancy

KellyABC · 04/08/2021 18:21

I had my first AstraZeneca vaccine and then got pregnant. Now been told that Pfizer and Moderna are the ones recommended in pregnancy and that there's almost no info about the AZ in pregnancy. Apparently I still have to have the AZ as my second dose. I haven't really found anything to reassure me that this is ok. Is anyone else in the same boat and what are your thoughts? Has anyone received reassurance on this? Thanks!

Just an update from me everyone - At 21 weeks, I bit the bullet and went for second AZ jab yesterday! Am now 24 hours later and no side effects other than bit of sore arm. Feeling relieved. On my first jab I had fever and felt like I was run over by a bus. Amazing no side effects this time. Glad I did it. So another one done! This is becoming a good trail for people to refer to so they can see good number who’ve done it and all positive outcome so far. Smile

Oh @Zulu933 I've been thinking (not stalking...) about you! I'm so glad your second was rather like mine! Nothing more than a little prick in the arm - I've dealt with many little pricks and this was the least irritating 🤣🤣

@chippedchocolate 🤣 absolutely! Yes really glad too 👍🏻

Yay @Zulu933 thats great news. I still havemt managed to get hold of a GP or midwife who will chat to me on my questions Confused but fingers crossed

Zulu933 · 16/08/2021 18:21

@Loll84 thank you. Oh no I hope you reach them real soon - you’ll feel like you’re moving forward once you’ve spoken to them at least. x

@Zulu933 It's great to get your update. Well done for doing it and glad you're feeling good. I'm still working up the courage and think I'll get there soon!

Just updating that today I bit the bullet and had my 2nd AZ vaccine! Was quite anxious and upset just before (dont know what they thought! Grin) but felt much better after I'd got it done it with and better now I've made the decision and am not constantly wondering what's best to do. 14hrs on, no side effects whatsoever, 20week scan in 1.5 weeks too so hopefully will confirm all ok them too.

Zulu933 · 20/08/2021 07:28

@Loll84 ah well done you! So glad no side effects. I hope you’re feeling relieved and know that this coming winter you’re much more protected. Shame we can’t all have a few glasses of something to celebrate 😂. Thanks for updating!

There are some vaccine trials for pregnant women, I'm not sure if you can sign up if you've already been vaccinated but here's the info I got by email if it's useful for anyone:

Multiple hospitals across the UK are looking for pregnant volunteers aged 18-45 years to take part in the Preg-Cov trial which is investigating the use of different COVID-19 vaccines in pregnancy. The total length of trial participation is up to 12 months after delivery.

The trial is sponsored by St George’s, University of London. The trial is being run with the support of the NHS and the National Institute for Health Research.

If you would like more information about the trial, or to register interest via the online screening questionnaire, please visit vaccine.ac.uk/research/preg-cov-trial/
