.....it has been so so so nice seeing something on the News that isn’t about Covid!!

Am I the only one who feels like this?

I see many people on here who say people should stop watching the News because it just hypes up Covid, and it feels like with the Olympics being on every channel, and it being all the Newsreaders are talking about, that it’s having the same effect

It's been great. I usually watch a lot of the olympics but it's been so refreshing to see such a big event finally take place, even if there are no spectators and there's masks etc. I've found it really uplifting.

I agree, though it did occur to me the government might be getting away with all kinds of shit while all news except the Olympics was being so underreported.

Absolutely. Love the Olympics. Loved seeing the Euros, too. And to those who claim the (tested) crowds would cause a massive spike and return to lockdown: up yours!

Yes, I’ve loved watching it too and have found the competitors’ achievements very inspiring. However the pointless and excessive mask-wearing and the diminished, slightly clinical atmosphere due to lack of spectators has made me sad at times.

I find it really sad to see some people on the podiums receiving their medals being made to wear a mask.

I just want to see their huge smiles!!

To be fair I entirely blame my sister for covid, wishing there was something on the news besides Brexit. She certainly got her wish. I agree the Olympics make a lovely change!

Yes I agree! The fact you wake up to medal news and live feed helps, instead of switching on the covid headlines. Also the new events line sport climbing and skateboarding are really engaging

@Mum21031608 Yes that’s exactly it. And on a windswept beach. And when they’ve just emerged from a swimming pool, dripping wet and panting.

I mean, I get that it’s good that it’s happening at all, but the masks do suck some of the joy from it.

Never into sports but I always love the Olympics and get the blues when it's ovee
