Dsd and her dm are going to ibiza and just worried they'll end up on a red list.

I don’t think they will end up red but it wouldn’t suprise me if they didn’t join France on the amber plus

If only because we don’t have capacity at airport quarantine hotels to house all the UK nationals currently in Spain.

Teflondreams · 03/08/2021 22:48

No chance. The hotel quarantine is already at capacity!

I agree with 0%. We've been in Spain for the past three weeks and there were a few days last week when we were concerned about going in the watch list but the government have dropped the plans.
Due back to U.K. next week and still think it possible but unlikely we'll have to quarantine at home , that's the worse case scenario.
But as with anything nothing is guaranteed!!
Personally I couldn't stand the stress and anxiety to go away for a holiday but we're with family so any change in rules would have manageable implications for us, we'd be able to stay here for the foreseeable future (in fact it might be a bonus!)

Zero.

JustLoveYourselfALittle · 03/08/2021 23:43

A good thank you.

They will get rid of Amber Plus and highly doubt it would go red before end of school holidays. Their vaccination rate is very high and Beta variant not detected there any more.

notimagain · 04/08/2021 08:10

The whole system is chaotic ATM…

Anyhow agree with the many upthread who say that Spain won’t go red - there isn’t anything like enough capacity (hotels and logistics) at UK airports to support the numbers who would need accommodating.

..and like Dolly I think the “Amber plus” category will go..

BarbaraofSeville · 04/08/2021 09:19

They've said they are scrapping the idea of amber plus. But in the last few days I've read that Spain is going to go red, and I've also read that it's going to go green. Same for Greece. If they're scrapping amber plus, what does that mean for France? And it could be that the Balerics and/or canaries, plus the Greek islands are in different, often less restrictive catergories than the mainland.

I think there's a lot of arguments going on behind the scenes because what is best for health and controlling covid is at odds with the importance of holidays to the economies of Spain, Greece etc and also that people are desperate to get away.

We can't do anything except wait and see, plus have a think about the implications if restrictions are tightened while you are away because that's always possible - there's been many occasions where this has happened with only a day or two's notice.

notimagain · 04/08/2021 11:13

I think maybe the best we can hope for is we might go back to the original idea of three lists..something along the lines of..

Green - no restrictions for those fully vaccinated.
Amber - some form of self isolation.
Red - Managed isolation (hotel at port of entry).

HMG simply can’t stick popular holiday destinations on the Red list overnight for all the reason mentioned upthread. If you look at the history of all this HMG resisted any form off managed isolation until the incoming numbers from those countries effected were very low…I might be holding myself hostage to fortune here but there’s no way HMG are going to put Spain or Greece onto red, even if their cases went through the roof, with tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of Brits already out their on holidays.

The other thing that needs sorting is the constant hints/threats from HMG that they are about to change restrictions, or threats thereof…witness this thread .. it’s screwing over the UK airlines and the larger UK travel industry. HMG need to make a decision over which country sits on which list and then stick with it for at least a month (or more) and accept and live with the fact their will be fluctuations in locals rates.

Chasing every single blip in the stats will kill jobs.

Blimey, got a few theres wrong in that post **y theirs a place for but obviously not here.GrinWink

On a Spanish island at the moment. So few chances of catching anything as it’s pretty quiet, everything outdoors. Very high vaccine rate and the Spanish are pretty desperate for a half decent summer. No way it could go red though without good warning - just too many people here. I’ve had a lovely (if a bit stressful) holiday.

Aposterhasnoname · 04/08/2021 15:44

Zero, as others have said, no hotel capacity so people would have to wait Australia style to come home. I’d give Boris ohhhhhh, 30 minutes, before he was ousted if that happened
