Here are the current plans for a booster jab.

Really think they need to limit it to CEV/65+.

It’s pretty disgusting how many doses we have had compared to the rest of the world.

3asAbird · 03/08/2021 12:15

Heres Germany plan

Anyone elderly or cev
Anyone who's has az or j&j same kind if vaccine.
Any kids between 12 and 17 who want it.

Amazing how science varies country to country.

Plans for Autumn COVID booster jab
Bonifacethethird · 03/08/2021 12:16

3 injections in less than a year. Any reason to think this won't be the ongoing schedule?

It does seem extreme yes

But whole thing is a an experiment
The virus is new
The vaccines are new
We far from knowing everything and things can change again with different varients.
I think 3rd Jab is better safe than sorry attitude rather than the 2 did not work.
No vaccines are full proof.

Farevalah · 03/08/2021 12:23

I'd be in Group 2.
Im not comfortable with the idea of getting yet another jab, especially at the same time as the flu jab. Are we the guinea pigs for this?

I think I'll just have the flu jab and skip the booster.

Are they proposing just 1 jab for 12-17 year olds, or will they be on the vax treadmill requiring 2nd doses and boosters?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/08/2021 12:30

Thank you for posting this. Useful info. When I'm offered my booster, I will take it.

Boarderingmadness · 03/08/2021 12:37

I wont be having it, more for others but this just seems like a back of fag packet plan.

We need to be vaccinating the RoW.

GiantToadstool · 03/08/2021 12:41

I'm group 2 but a lot of risk factors so am very keen to have a booster.

Ive already booked my flu jab thru boots so will see...

GiantToadstool · 03/08/2021 12:43

Wow so Germany are doing the same AND those with Az AND 12-17 year olds. They must be really on it! I thought our vaccine delivery was good!

No plans do uk 12 to 16 year old They want them to catch covid They won't have enough vaccine supply or resources to do all that Germany are doing. Doubtful teachers be a priority.

The analogy I read this morning was that we are cleaning up our own patch of beach while the waves continue to break all around us. Has anyone modelled the impact/effectiveness of this approach v sending doses abroad to countries with much more limited means/access? Even from a purely selfish point of view I'd expect the latter to be worthwhile.

Farevalah · 03/08/2021 12:51

3asAbird

Thank you for clarifying, I thought I read something about 12-17s being jabbed.

GoWalkabout · 03/08/2021 12:55

I'm nhs and as far as I read my protection from the double vaccine will run out in October. So this needs to start to roll out.

canigooutyet · 03/08/2021 13:00

12 - 17 year old who are CEV are getting vaccinated. At the moment the rest aren't the health benefits of vaccinating them are small.

Interesting to see the last U.K. ICU report has men in their 40s are by far and away the largest subgroup in ICU. They will have almost all been given AZ.

My husband and I did the Roche vaccine antibody test and he had just 200 U/ml whereas I had >2500 U/ml. He had AZ, I had Moderna. All in line with the recent UCL study in the Lancet which showed much lower antibodies for AZ recipients. Everybody who got AZ should be prioritised for a booster. Delta afflicts younger groups more than previous strains.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/08/2021 13:00

It’s pretty disgusting how many doses we have had compared to the rest of the world. Did you miss the reason the UK bought up so many doses of so many vaccines... and continue to do so?

The UK has started to send doses out to poorer countries, 1 million already, has pledged 5 million this year, more next year. 100 million altogether.

Oh! Actually I lied. that was what was promised a couple of months ago.

Because Covax has not been able to fill the gap left by India not being able to send out doses (they need them in coutry) the UK is sending (may already have shipped) 9 million doses. 5 million to Covax, 817,000 to Kenya, 600,000 to Indonesia and Jamaica 300,000.

Branded UK and shipped by yet another not for profit company

Bennetgirl · 03/08/2021 13:02

Pregnant women are eligible for the flu jab. I don’t think we’re included for this though?

I do wonder how long the vaccine lasts. Will the rest of us have another jab next year or be left to get it?

Boarderingmadness · 03/08/2021 13:11

The UK has 460million doses ordered and/or delivered, we need less than 200m to vaccinate everyone, inc children, 3 x.

Whilst its great we intend to send out 100m (why do we need to wait a year?)
We need to vaccinate the RoW or we will face far worse variants

We will never vaccinate the world, in truth. Many will abstain and some places won’t have the infrastructure for a comprehensive rollout. Variants will happen, and are often generated in immune-compromised people anyways.
CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/08/2021 13:19

(why do we need to wait a year?) Because they haven't all been made yet?!?!?!

Double vaccinated men in their 40's?

How many of those doses are in people’s arms? Sending them isn’t the end.
Itsprobablynotcominghome · 03/08/2021 13:43

People worrying about their immunity waning after having been double jabbed 7 months ago, whilst most adults in the rest of the world have had 0 doses, is peak British.

IndigoC · 03/08/2021 13:48

@BlueBlancmange

The government here isn’t releasing that breakdown. I wonder why.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/08/2021 14:29

How many of those doses are in people’s arms? Sending them isn’t the end. Not sure the jolly old Empire is in charge of that part of the process!

FFS! What the hell do some poeple want?

Real life works in real time. It's not some blockbuster movies all done and dusted as the final credits roll!
