Has anyone caught this while only half vaccinated? What were your symptoms?

@Dogoodfeelgood

Not sure what variant but I’ve had one jab and caught covid. Was bedridden for two days, just felt so so weak and nauseous. Complete loss of taste and smell (horrifying and scary symptom), very anxious as well (I think that was the lack of senses, quite disorienting). I am day 14 since exposure and day 7 since symptoms started and am feeling well enough to catch up on some work this evening, and have the faintest faintest sense of smell which I am blissfully grateful for and hoping will continue to improve!
Oh and forgot to mention that initial symptoms were congestion/runny nose - caught it off a friend who had these symptoms but assumed it was allergies as it’s not on the covid symptom list!
Lou573 · 01/08/2021 19:58

Yes - symptom free for me, mild cold symptoms for dh.

LordEmsworth · 01/08/2021 20:10

I had sinusitis and one day of really achey muscles. It wasn't till I lost my sense of smell 5 days in that I realised it was Covid. The test & trace guy told me that the symptom he's been hearing about most often with delta is muscle aches, so I assume that's what I had.

I am predisposed to respiratory illnesses so actually think I got away pretty lightly, I kept working (from home) throughout and bounced back pretty quickly - was fine by the end of 10 days. So I do think a single jab is good protection!

What is everyone doing about their second jab? Do I have it next week regardless or should I wait a few more months?

Samcj02 · 01/08/2021 21:08

I think I’ve got this now, I’m single my jabbed, had positives on lateral flow, waiting for confirmation from PCR test.
My symptoms started Friday (when I first tested positive on LFT)
Started by feeling very tired, headache, then developed a cough and lost my sense of taste and smell.
Not feeling too bad just tried and run down.

A couple of website advised 4 weeks after first symptoms, but when I went for mine they weren't interested... so that doesn't seem to be official advice
Dogoodfeelgood · 01/08/2021 22:21

@LordEmsworth thanks! Seems slightly pointless to have it after having had covid so recently but would be good to just get the vaccine passport admin out of the way…

SpringheelJack · 02/08/2021 10:24

Dogoodfeelgood LordEmsworth
I get the impression they just want to get jabs in arms at the moment. I read 28 days, but got told by someone on the phone trying to book me into a clinic that I could have it as soon as isolation finished. I already had my second one booked and stuck with that appointment as I couldn't see why the 28 advice would be out there for no reason but could see why they might prefer to hurry things along for statistical reasons! It makes sense to have to wait a little bit.

I tested positive for covid on Saturday and I've had one jab! Symptoms so far are, bunged up and sneezy, cough, sore throat, fatigue, nausea and a woozy feeling in my head. I was supposed to have my 2nd jab on the 12th but im moving it to the end of August now. I have such bad health anxiety so this is awful! And I have a 14 month old to look after Sad

Hang in there! It might get worse before it gets better or you might sail through without more symptoms. Can you get help to look after baby just in case? There were two days when I wouldn’t have been able to look after a child - but my partner had way less symptoms and would have been able to x I found that just taking one day at a time really helped with my anxiety - try not too think too much into future and get through each day. The mind fog/anxiety was very real.
Comefromaway · 02/08/2021 11:05

Yes, a friend of dd's caught the Delta variant about 3 weeks after her 1st jab. She had what felt like a bad cold.

Dd was double vaccinated and caught it but was asymptomatic apart from a tickly throat and a little bit of fatigue.

Cherir20 · 02/08/2021 12:20

Wow thanks! Some of these make me feel a tad better. @pixietinsle5 oh I’m sorry to hear that! You sound just like me I have terrible health anxiety too and I’m worrying about having to care for my 10 month old if I catch it again! I had it when she was 7 weeks old so was much easier then as that age they aren’t mobile! I’m sure you will be ok! Do you have anyone else who lives with you that can help?

I went for mine the week after my isolation finished as I need to be double jabbed for a holiday.. dp did the same and I know a few other people who are doing the same after seeing I didn't grow another head Grin
HungryHippo11 · 04/08/2021 05:28

@Cherir20

Thanks it looks like one jab doesn’t offer much protection then which is worrying! I have seen posts on here saying people have been informed they have the delta variant when there swab was sent to a lab. But like others have said it’s probably because it’s the dominant strain now they just ‘presume’ it’s that one rather than testing
You have asked a very leading question. Of course everyone who responded said yes, there will be millions who have been exposed to delta unknowingly and not contracted the virus, but why would they post on this thread?

Incidentally I have been exposed to covid (presumably delta) whilst having had one jab and didn't develop it. My preschool aged daughters both had it, climbed all over me, coughing in my face, licking me and sharing spoons. I didn't catch it from them.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 04/08/2021 05:37

I have it at the moment (assuming it’s delta), I had my second jab on Saturday but must have already caught covid by then as my symptoms started soon after. I had a temperature, cough, sore chest and headache, then the next day lost my sense of taste and smell. I still have all of the symptoms except the temperature plus extreme fatigue.

My DD started having symptoms today, she is only 15 so not vaccinated. She has been up all night with a burning hot fever, constant vomiting and bad headache. She is coughing and says her chest hurts. I just hope that the worst of it passes quickly because we are seriously struggling at the moment Sad.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 04/08/2021 05:38

*sorry I meant her symptoms started yesterday, I’ve been up all night so losing track of time!

Cherir20 · 05/08/2021 14:08

@MummyInTheNecropolis wishing you all well ! Sorry to hear this! How are you feeling today?? Bless her this new variant seems to be affecting younger more than the original one
