Lots of dancing and face saving diplomacy going on in the background (I think)

Best of all is that you can fly direct from Reunion into London without having to quarantine because Reunion is on Amber list!!

Yes it's brilliant! I'm so glad we held our nerve and didn't cancel our trip straight away... we were waiting for this announcement and now we can still go Smile Hope you can see your family x

So how easy is it to get travel insurance for amber countries? Do they exclude Covid related costs? Eg if you test positive while away?

Also anyone know if the Tous Covid Verif app can now recognize UK vaccination certificates or do you have to print a copy off and hope you can get into restaurants, museums etc?

I don't know about insurance. But DH and I have the TousAntiCovid app and managed to use it to scan our QR codes from the NHS app (we had to take screenshots and send them to each other so we could scan from a different phone!) so now we have the digital covid certificates in the app. DH was saying something about them not being recognised, though, and apparently we'll have to go into a pharmacy or something when we're in France... I'm not quite sure. Probably best to print a copy as well to be on the safe side.

Hi @AnotherEmma I've been reading this morning that the French TousAntiCovid Verif app (the one used by restaurants, museums etc to check you into venues) has been updated and will now recognize English and Welsh NHS certificates. Not sure what is happening re Scottish / NI.

But yes having a paper copy plus the NHS app on your phone will also help if there are still issues.

Merci!
I can't quite believe we are actually going... we will be seeing family and friends there for the first time in more than 2 years.
Hope everyone else can see their loved ones soon, too.

@AuldAlliance

As long as Scotland follows suit, that is.
BBC is saying England, Scotland and NI.

Nice to see that the government has seen sense on this, probably because they realise economic sanctions (they were in all but name) against the French made them look silly and no doubt a few Tory donors were unhappy.

Of course just before the Scottish schools re-start, surprise, surprise.

AuldAlliance · 05/08/2021 13:42

Mirabelle - that's interesting, because the Scottishgvmt's website, updated yesterday, says France still an exception:

I noticed this too and I'm wondering if it is because the change doesn't come into force until Sunday. Lots of other news sources, including the Scotsman, say it applies to Scotland too : www.scotsman.com/health/coronavirus/changes-to-green-amber-red-list-for-scotland-as-seven-countries-added-to-green-list-travellers-to-france-no-longer-need-to-isolate-3334863

AuldAlliance · 05/08/2021 17:45

Thanks, Mirabelle.
I doubt the Scotsman would report it if it weren't the case...really hope I can go and see my parents.

Fingers crossed!!

Scottish gvmt site was updated on the 5th, but still says that France isn't on the amber list.

Confused

WhiskeryWoman · 07/08/2021 18:29

@choux travel insurance is fine for France because there is no FCDO advice not to travel. The traffic light colour of the country is actually irrelevant as that all relates to how you are treated for getting back in to the U.K. and once you’re here.

My bog standard annual policy has covered us for our trip to France (I phoned the insurer to double check). You can purchase a policy through Staysure which covers you for travelling against FCDO advice. The quote I had (out of interest) seemed very reasonable.

This is on a different part of the site:
