We have 2 sons at home still aged 20 and 24. Both now positive following bojos get out and get back to normal edict.

Ds2 aged 20 currently isolating elsewhere after visiting pals student shared house and testing positive there - double jabbed due to job and feels fine just feels bit of a cold.
Ds1 been very 🙄 sociable BUT does also travel on train to work (and works in open
Plan office) and since last week lots not wearing masks and packed in like sardines on the train soooo. He went nightclubbing last night and is symptomatic this morning feeling bloody awful, was due 2nd jab in 2 weeks.

Dh had covid last spring and me and the boys kept away and avoided it. Ds1 is isolated in his room and moaning. Keeping everything crossed 🤞 but all through this I’ve been VERY scared of covid.

I’m so annoyed feel we have been thrown to the wolves why didn’t Bojo wait until more of the kids (18 plus) were jabbed??

Dowry to hear that @Benji13 hopefully you are double vaxxed?
The theory is I think better to open up now than in the autumn/winter.
Also maybe an element of, little motivation for younger people to get vaxxed if rates are very low.
I must admit though I don't feel comfortable around clubbers though. Sad, as my 18 y.o. niece I was happy to hug a few weeks ago has been out clubbing every night this week, so we all distanced in the garden again when meeting up this weekend!

Arcadia · 25/07/2021 21:01

sorry not dowry!

DownWhichOfLate · 25/07/2021 21:02

Personal choice, isn’t it? Just because things are open doesn’t mean you have to go to them.

Ifitquacks · 25/07/2021 21:02

I mean… your sons didn’t have to go out. Boris didn’t hold a gun to their heads and tell them they must become party animals as of the 19th July. The whole idea was ‘personal responsibility’, not forced socialisation.

PercyPigandMe · 25/07/2021 21:03

The idea is to build herd immunity now along with the vaccinations so this is to be expected isn't it? I'm sure they'll be absolutely fine

Santastealer · 25/07/2021 21:04

No-one forced him into a nightclub. You can’t keep everyone locked down forever, people have to make their own educated risks.

I hope they both recover quickly and you manage to avoid it.

AntiMaskersAreTwats · 25/07/2021 21:04

Surely people have learnt by now that just because the government says it’s ok it doesn’t mean it is! It’s usually because they want to boost the economy over people’s safety. Everyone I know who went to the final at Wembley has tested positive. 12 of them! And not all in one group. If youngsters who aren’t fully vaccinated don’t want to get it then they can’t go to clubs and have to carry on being sensible with masks etc.

People need to disregard what the government is saying, read the science and make their own judgments.

Exactly. I can't stand Boris Johnson but it's hardly his fault your kid chose to go to a club last night.
PullTheWeeds · 25/07/2021 21:07

Maybe ds1 won't feel so rough tomorrow. Hopefully it's covid with a hangover on top that is making him feel so bad and he'll get through the rest of his recovery with mild symptoms like his brother.

Well when our asshole health Secretary declares we should not be cowering over this virus it does rather send a message to our young people that they are invincible and have nothing to fear.

He said it yesterday. I doubt that was the push OP’s ‘sociable’ son needed to go to a nightclub last night Hmm

Waxonwaxoff0 · 25/07/2021 21:18

Because we never locked down to protect young healthy people. We locked down to protect the elderly and vulnerable. Why do we need to wait until young healthy people are jabbed when they are statistically incredibly unlikely to suffer badly with Covid?

I have yet to receive my second jab due to my age and have a primary age DS.

Ifitquacks · 25/07/2021 21:19

Also, they do have very little to fear.

Darbs76 · 25/07/2021 21:20

I’ve worked at home since the start and always wear a mask, most I’ve done is a meal. But I’ve got Covid, caught from the kids school. 3 out of 3 of us have it now, I’ve on day 10 and still feel dreadful. Ds (17) was not great for the first 3 days but then recovered but took him until day 10, still coughing. Dd (13) just tested positive today. It’s just never ending, I know so many people who are positive now. Assume delta variant

mrshoho · 25/07/2021 21:21

They have been encouraged by our government to do just that. What the hell is the point of opening nightclubs if youngsters are going to be mature and sensible and stay at home? RIDICULOUS

Nicknacky · 25/07/2021 21:23

@Benji13 I assume your household income is not at risk if a long term lockdown was introduced?

They are adults, making personal choices.
BareGrylls · 25/07/2021 21:29

You've not had much sympathy on here OP, I don't blame your DC at all for thinking they could have a taste of normal life, especially when double jabbed.
If anyone actually read the OP the one who went clubbing last night, likely caught it at work or travelling to work. Even delta doesn't act that quickly.

mrshoho · 25/07/2021 21:30

Yes and being encouraged by our government to go out to these clubs. The health Secretary implying that we shouldn't be cowards is twisted in my view when our NHS is imploring people to be more cautious.

JellyBabiesFan · 25/07/2021 21:32

Did Boris turn up at your house and drag you son to the nightclub?

Personal responsibility? No?

Sweettea1 · 25/07/2021 21:32

Bojo did not force your son to be very socialable or go to a packed nightclub. Your son is surely able to check out his surroundings and decide if he thinks its safe or not.

DumplingsAndStew · 25/07/2021 21:37

Try and think of the positives... your son felt unwell this morning (presumably late morning after a night of clubbing Wink) and has been tested and had a result by 9.30pm. That's pretty impressive.

Hope they remain well and you manage to avoid it.

Benji13 · 25/07/2021 21:39

@BareGrylls thank you! No he will not have caught it that quickly from last night, most probably picked up on the packed train he goes to work on. Other son probably picked it up from his part time pub job! Both working you see so I think they think they may as well socialise...
keeping everything crossed 🤞
At least dh and i both wfh!

The comments about young people not being forced to socialise are unrealistic. Have these people never been young? They have played by the rules throughout but he’s now told them all is ok - freedom day 🙄

Wellbythebloodyhell · 25/07/2021 21:40

No one forced your DC to go out to night clubs or partying, if they, and you, thought there was zero chance of them catching covid, or any other transmissible virus for that matter, then more fool them, and you, for being so incredibly naive.

Honestly I think if Boris told everyone to put their hand in a burning fire many would be stupid enough to do it without fear of getting burnt Confused

Benji13 · 25/07/2021 21:41

@DumplingsAndStew yeah I’d say hangover was involved this morning too 😂
