Just curious to know where people may have caught coronavirus. Is it mainly from their kids bringing it home from school? If so why aren’t kids being vaccinated if they are a large cause of spread.

I got it from DP. He got it from work. The whole shift went down together

Looneytune253 · 25/07/2021 11:21

Mine was back in March 2020 and caught it from my dad. It was before lockdown but when the gov were recommending caution. My dad wasn't bothering with caution (we were) and he came into ours the day before it wasn't allowed. He got poorly that evening, me the next day dh the day after. Only one that was very poorly was dh.

Frazzled2207 · 25/07/2021 11:23

@MrsSkylerWhite

I don’t suppose many people know with certainty.
Yes husbands and wives have typically caught it from each other once one of them got it Similarly siblings. Presumably about half come from close household contact
PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 25/07/2021 11:26

DD doesn't know where she caught it.
DS caught it from her.

TeaAndBisquits · 25/07/2021 11:27

I've caught it from my Husband who, presumably picked it up from playing Football as he's not been anywhere else. (Working from home and only doing school runs) Maybe the kids brought it in, but all their LF tests have come back negative.

(But again, that means nothing as all my LF tests have come back negative but got my PCR results today and I'm positive!)

Both double jabbed too.

LagganBubble · 25/07/2021 11:28

I caught it from my DH who got it from a work colleague (as did 6 others at his work). My DS caught it from his flatmate who probably got it watching the Euros in London pubs.

Sockwomble · 25/07/2021 11:49

No one in my household has had it. The only self isolation was through ds's school taxi driver who probably caught it from someone else ( not a child) who used the taxi. No cases adult or child in any of ds's close contacts/ bubble at school.

@Taciturn

As I'm sure you know if you follow case rates and data for school age children, it's a complex issue that cannot really be summarised by linking to a single research article.

ONS data (ons.gov.uk) is available on their website and data for case rates by age as reported by age are available there. Unfortunately, it seems that some data around school transmission has been suppressed, presumably by people who would like to carry on parroting outdated assumptions that children do not easily catch or spread COVID. The following articles from BMJ may also help in understanding the reality:

FenceSplinters · 25/07/2021 12:02

We got it from school.

bizboz · 25/07/2021 12:06

DD caught it at school - another child tested positive a few days before. DH caught it from her. She also passed it on to one of her friends before showing symptoms.

OrangeBananaFish · 25/07/2021 12:09

No idea. Definitely not from school as my DDs tested negative originally (DD1 has since tested positive, but obvs got it from me as had not been to school for a week previously). Either outside or inside where everybody was wearing masks.

omgthepain · 25/07/2021 12:12

@honkytonkheroe

Exactly

It can be caught anywhere!

Saidtoomuch · 25/07/2021 12:14

Child at senior school. Gcse year, so couldn't do the class bubbles that other years are doing.

DP works for a funeral home and pretty much their whole team got it at the beginning of the whole thing, when there weren't enough precautions in place. 40 people went down with it, they had to close the place plus two other branches for 3 weeks, 1 person died .. and obviously DP brought it home to me! Nice gift!

TheVampiresWife · 25/07/2021 12:48

Last March. No testing then but absolutely sure that's what it was - DH was very ill with all the classic symptoms and completely lost his sense of taste/smell for several weeks, something that had never happened to him before and wasn't listed as a symptom then. GP prescribed antibiotics for his chest even though his cough was dry and 'didn't sound like a classic chest infection' - covid was discounted only because we hadn't travelled to affected countries recently (that's how early it was).

Anyway... DD went to London to visit her girlfriend mid February. About five days after she came home all of us went down with something which felt really unusual - it came on really suddenly, fine one minute, felt like shit literally the next. Painful legs, cough, strange v painful sore throat on one side only, fever, loss of taste/smell etc. Me and DD recovered quite quickly, DH was really unwell and had trouble breathing and was off work for three weeks. DD's girlfriend was still unwell six weeks later with fatigue and aches.

We think DD must've brought it home with her, and caught it on the tube or in a packed theatre. Her gf had just come back from Malaysia and had friends who had recently returned from China also.

TattyDevine · 25/07/2021 13:36

My daughter got it at school but hasn't passed it on to us.

TattyDevine · 25/07/2021 13:36

She's asymptomatic

JungleBeats · 25/07/2021 14:27

One of two ambulance men.

CassandraTrotter · 25/07/2021 14:33

I caught it from work in a high school. Dh caught it from me.

LadyLindaT · 25/07/2021 14:36

I know exactly when and where I caught it, but was repeatedly told that it wasn't possible , because it wasn't in the UK, yet. Ahem.

Porcupineintherough · 25/07/2021 14:44

The first time (March 2020) I cant be certain but pretty sure it was from one of my colleagues. Second time from ds1 who caught it at school.

annlee3817 · 25/07/2021 15:09

I caught it from our plumber, he came round to fix our toilet and he tested positive the next day, he's the only one I knew that had it, I tested positive around ten days after I think

Generalpost · 25/07/2021 15:16

My 18 year old caught it possibly from school (but can't be sure) we are a large family probably not the most hygienic ie things ae not wiped down constantly hands are probably not wasjervas often as they should be. My special needs chikds like and sniffs things. And as far as we know no one else in the house caught it.

seanceinterrupted · 25/07/2021 15:19

I got it from my son who sat beside a boy at school who holidayed in Wuhan for Xmas 1.5 years ago.
