Itchy rash on arm after vaccine - is this normal?

I had my first Moderns jab 8 days ago. Yesterday I noticed a rash on my arm where the jab was - not sure whether the rash has been there since the vaccine or whether it has just started. It’s worse today and itchy. It’s about 1” wide and 1.5” long. Is this normal?! Not sure whether to ask a doctor about it but don’t want to bother them unnecessarily.

Yes it's called Covid Arm. Unfortunately they don't recognise it as a symptom in the UK yet so make sure you log it using the yellow card system. Mine disappeared after 48 hours or so.

@delilahbucket Thanks for your reply. Did yours also appear about a week after the vaccine? (My arm was a bit red and quite sore for a few days after the vaccine but this bigger, itchy rash is new.)

Yes I had it, itchy and red, but about 3 days later (after having no other mark after the vaccine). It went away on its own after about 3 or 4 days more. I had Pfizer. I didn't get it the second time.

@SCMocha That’s reassuring! Thank you!

Yes I had it too, only a couple of days, mine was ten days after. If you Google you'll see it is common.

Day 8 mine began. I did have mine checked out by a gp who was adamant it was nothing to do with the vaccine and gave me antibiotics, which I was subsequently allergic to and they made me ill. It was very hot and itchy but disappeared as quickly as it appeared. I haven't had any sign of it again with my second and today is day nine, if that is of any consolation, but I did react more to my second within hours of having it i.e my arm was sore for longer, I had a small red spot where the vaccine went in and I was tired for a few days, the latter two I didn't have the first time round. It was like my body went "oh yes, I know what this is".

Sorry to hear the antibiotics made you ill!

Mine is also very hot and itchy. Very reassuring to know that other people have had this and it went away!
