Whole bus of kids having to isolate after one positive case on the bus, all wear masks. A child the complete other side of the bus still has to isolate for 10 days.

I work in a place where I can work very closely on a long shift with another colleague who tests positive and I don't need to isolate as I'm wearing a mask and taking precautions.

None of it makes any sense anymore.

Really? What about her seems bonkers? Do you mean her personally, or her arguments/research/book? In the latter case, what specifically do you find bonkers? I thought she was very measured and the evidence she presented was fascinating. I've just ordered her book.

I am allowed to teach without a mask in a room with 30 pupils all without masks . I have to escort them to the gate at the end of the lesson which is a short work across the school field - for which I have to put my mask back on Confused

Candyapple49 · 22/07/2021 14:12

Also if a whole class bubble was sent home to isolate the class teacher never was despite spending hours in a room with the said class . The teacher could have been closer to the pupil with COVID than a pupil 4 rows away .

Honey12346 · 22/07/2021 14:29

Anymore? They never did to me. Sure the lockdown makes sense, less contact with people means less spread, but then we got out of lockdown last summer and I went on holiday which was perfectly allowed but when I came back I wasn't allowed to go to a friend's for a cup of tea (rules in my city) I realized how illogical the rules are. And they only got worse from there!

DistrictCommissioner · 22/07/2021 14:37

My DC's class has just been closed down because a child had a positive LFT result, I assume the child had symptoms as they have been off for a few days.

  1. I thought bubbles had ended.
  2. I thought LFT weren't for children with symptoms.
  3. I thought LFTs weren't for under 11s.

All so confusing.

Candyapple49 · 22/07/2021 15:02

Another one in my school is that the staff room is shut and we are isolated in bubbles of six in our free time and can’t see other teachers - but after work we could all legally go to the same pub and get a drink .

HelloMissus · 22/07/2021 15:05

It makes no sense.
School bus = have to self isolate.
Normal bus = advisory ping IF you’ve downloaded it.

@thenakedmolerat

toesies no, I think the world has shut down due to collective hysteria which has then led to governments realising that they can exercise a degree of control over us never seen before.
What she said! Absolute hysteria over something that really never warranted it. The reason it's still going strong is due to grown adults just doing what they're told by people who appear to do the opposite.

Stop being so bloody compliant. Who the hell isolates for 10 days when they know they don't have covid and feel perfectly fine?

Mreggsworth · 22/07/2021 15:42

It's easy to say the hysteria was never warranted after we had lock downs that bought the numbers down and now a vaccine reducing hospital admissions. Things never got uncontrollably bad as measures were put in place to prevent that.

Had we not locked down and the NHS got so overwhelmed with covid that people couldn't access treatment, therrfore people with preventable illnesses were left to die, the 'hysteria' right now would be 10 x worse, just for a different reason.

I'd rather be hysterically annoyed that I have to isolate for 10 days than be hysterically annoyed that a love one died in a waiting room of a hospital as there were no beds for them.

Covidworries · 22/07/2021 16:22

@Willowwisp23
How do you know that you havent got covid after close contact with a positive person? Id love to know your super power Hmm

What do you honestly believe would have happened if no measures had been implemented ? Do you honestly believe that the NHS would have been able to treat all the covid patients and all the other patients they see. That the police, fire service would have carried on as normal.
Thats shops would have been staffed no matter gow many people sucumbed, that lorry drivers could carry on delivering goods no matter how many got ill. That teachers could have carried on teaching on oxygen?

Willowwisp23 · 22/07/2021 17:43

I don't have a super power but I have covid tests.

I think things may have been ok if we hadn't locked down but we'll never know that will we?

Covidworries · 22/07/2021 18:11

Really can you not see the death toll with lockdown and understand that numbers would have kept on going up and up.

LFT arent 100% accurate and you can spread covid before testing positive.
So imagine you have been informed to isolate due to close contact, you continue going about your life everyone who has contact with you 48 hrs before symptoms start or before you get a positive result now has to isolate themselves. You literally have no idea who will and will not become seriously ill.

itsgettingwierd · 22/07/2021 18:13

@TheVampiresWife

A lot of it has never made sense.
Exactly!

There was so much we could have done and didn't and loads we did that seemed utterly pointless.

I think this is the reason people lost faith and belief in the restrictions.

Toesies · 23/07/2021 01:22

@thenakedmolerat

toesies no, I think the world has shut down due to collective hysteria which has then led to governments realising that they can exercise a degree of control over us never seen before.

Hmm Hmmm. That would take some organising. Particularly given that not all parts of the world get on?

ineedaholidaynow · 23/07/2021 01:39

@thenakedmolerat so do you think the world should have just ignored COVID and carried on as normal. How many deaths do you think there would have been? Without countries reacting we wouldn’t have the vaccines we have. Where do you think we would be if we didn’t have the vaccines?
