Can you pinged if someone who lives in the same building has Covid?

Upstairs neighbour has tested positive. We share a front door and communal hallway, but hardly ever see her. We haven’t had any contact for the past couple of weeks.

DH has just texted to say he’s been pinged and is on his way home from work, and now I’m worried because I don’t know where his contact has taken place and whether I’ll get pinged too. Will the app be able to recognise that upstairs neighbour belongs to a separate household? If you’ve been pinged at the same time as a family member, how long was it between pings?

DH and I have just done LFTs, both were negative. Upstairs neighbour has confirmed she has the app. I think we are going to continue to test daily / every other day, and get on with our lives (and definitely turn off tracing while we are at home).

I'm so glad I don't have an app.

I've heard of people getting pinged when their neighbour tests positive even if they've not had contact

Yep I live in flats so that's why I don't have tracing turned on, if the downstairs neighbor has bed in same position as mine and next door has it against wall we could be within 3 metres of each other even with Walla and floors between us.
