Do you think any other counties will soon be “Amber Plus”?

Just that really? I know they’ve already upset a lot of peoples plans with France going on the list. Would they take the school holidays into consideration?

They are saying Spain and Greece maybe. I’m not sure if we will go away, we cancelled Florida. Debating Majorca but will be last minute if we go and I’ll be checking infection numbers

Kate3150 · 20/07/2021 07:08

@Darbs76- Yes, I keep reading about Spain we have something booked for Sept but just don’t know what to do!! X

I’d just see how things go, Spain does have a high number of cases so that might not be isolation free

Kate3150 · 20/07/2021 07:42

Yes, will see how things go over the next few weeks. I just hope they don’t do anything during the school holidays. Feel awful for people who are having their plans disrupted, especially those meeting up with family

Don't forget it works both ways and cases rising in countries like Spain will be due to transmission amongst residents, but also from tourists and people visiting relatives from other countries.

I think the likes of Greece, Spain, Portugal and Malta will hang on as long as they can, and probably longer than is sensible, before possibly shutting the door to UK residents at the end of August if things aren't under control here by then.

Denmark has just effectively banned the UK leisure traveller by imposing a 4 day isolation requirement even for the double vaccinateded.

Delatron · 20/07/2021 10:43

I think it also depends on vaccination levels in the county. Greece has worked very hard to vaccinate all their island populations before the end of June as they are so reliant on tourism. So versus a country like Italy/Germany who are less reliant I think they would try and hold out.

Mirabelle47 · 20/07/2021 11:47

Amber plus for France is a total farce. The government is either going to have to admit this and remove the extra restrictions or add some other countries to the list to justify its misunderstanding of the statistics. I wonder which they will go for ...

Egghead68 · 20/07/2021 11:59

Yes Spain

nordica · 20/07/2021 12:07

It's more likely some other countries will start restricting travel from the UK if cases continue going up here, especially if we manage to create a new variant...

newnortherner111 · 20/07/2021 12:08

I think very possible, so as to be seen in some way to be responding to case numbers. Instead of sensible measures in the UK such as legal requirements on face coverings.

Kate3150 · 20/07/2021 13:32

I keep reading Spain, wonder if they would wait until after the holidays?

OP posts:
Egghead68 · 20/07/2021 15:54

I doubt they will wait till after the holidays! Based on previous form they will probably announce late one Friday night in high season that it starts on Monday!

Frazzled2207 · 20/07/2021 16:36

they seem to have no regard whatsoever for the family holiday maker or travel industry. You can't have any kind of viable industry with this amount of uncertainty.

I think a more understandable threat however is other countries putting us on their red lists. I would say unlikely with Spain as they really like Brits coming in and spending money but could likely happen elsewhere, US has just done it (though doesn't let many non Americans in anyway)

EasterIssland · 20/07/2021 16:39

Im flying to Spain this weekend , the cases are high but it’s mostly delta variant and their vaccination rate is one of rhe highest in Europe , def higher than France. So whilst the numbers are bad … I don’t think because of it being delta it’ll be placed in amber +

This

The fact they have the gall say that they need to take a cautious approach when they've just opened everything back up, and are now floating the idea of allowing double vax'd to enter stadiums/nightclubs....urgh.

Like it's the dishonestly and the inconsistency, as well as how political everything is getting.

If the EU wants to shackle the Brits with restrictions then fair enough, but in no way should we be paying through the nose for tests or quarantining after travelling from the South of France, when everything is such a mess here.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 20/07/2021 16:57

Amber Plus?

whatever happened to Dark Amber?

DollyParton2 · 20/07/2021 21:34

Booked Mallorca in 10 days so bloody hope it doesn’t get added to this complete farce of yet another bloody category, last minute, causing MASS upheaval to millions of families and travel industry workers yet again.

Kate3150 · 21/07/2021 06:59

@DollyParton2- so horrible isn’t it you can’t relax or look forward to travel plans. Will keep everything crossed you get to go 🤞🏻

We gave up for this reason. We are looking forward to a week in a caravan in the rain in Wales. It was obviously going to be a nightmare going abroad, so may as well take the stress out and just accept it will be a bit shite.

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 21/07/2021 07:39

The Times are reporting today that Spain has twice the rate of Beta as France. But apparently Grant Shapps has won a commitment that no more changes until 2Aug.

Kate3150 · 21/07/2021 07:55

@CryingAtTheDiscotheque- that’s interesting. Is there an article on that? X

Yes that sounds pretty Boris like -pause the pandemic, it's holiday time!

Given that the traffic light system lasted about a week before turning into a Dulux paint chart anything could change at any time.

The next review is on tje 5th I think so hope (selfishly) if any changes it’s after. I’m flying back on that day. Tho to be honest I don’t care if. I have to self isolate. I can so and the travel is to meet my family who I’ve not seen since 2019. It’s a much overdue travel
EasterIssland · 21/07/2021 08:43

Btw it’s in the news that they won’t be checking anymore that you’ve done the form you’ve to do before flying into the Uk nor check the pcr you’ve to take before flying. To speed up the queues. Which is the point then of wasting my time and money filling the form and doing the pcr

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 21/07/2021 08:45

I honestly don't understand why France is Amber+ and Spain isn't.

Makes no sense at all.
