Why aren't all the MPs back in the House of Commons?

Just watching BBC Parliament, the MPs are still very much social distancing and wearing masks. Surely, most of them will be fully vaccinated. But they expect schools to be back to normal

Not all MPs and parties agree with the government's approach.

Not all MPs are English - there are still restrictions in place in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Mask are a choice in England and many will keep wearing them.

I would be amazed if there are more than 20 people there

It's the Speaker who decides how many MPs can be in the chamber and he's apparently very risk averse.

Also it is a Monday.

Main sitting days in parliament are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.

Even pre-covid you wouldn't get many there on a Monday as they are travelling to London from constituencies.

Because they'll all be off on their holidays next week and they've got to pack. Plus they don't want to risk having to self-isolate before they get on that plane.

You can get to London from most of England within a couple of hours.

In normal times there may be very few MPs in attendance. For PM’s Questions on a Tuesday there will be many more, and a full house for important votes.

Absolutely true but as I mentioned earlier not all MPs are from England.

noblegiraffe · 19/07/2021 17:11

Because half of them are having to self-isolate having come into contact with The Saj.

MrsTophamHat · 19/07/2021 17:14

Even in normal times they don't all just sit on those benches and have the crack all day.

I think they just go if they want to speak.

ineedaholidaynow · 19/07/2021 17:15

I will wait to see what happens at PMQs, although obviously the PM won't be there!

Because they're following the science... for themselves.

It's only the general public, not MPs, that need to 'learn to live with' a disease that kills and disables.
