Bad cold symptoms and covid

Myself and Ds have cold symptoms . Sore throat, coughing, sneezing, runny nose etc and can’t smell/taste coz we are so blocked up. All the usual cold stuff and it doesn’t feel any different to me than a really bad head cold.
I’m waiting for the phone line to open (work nhs) so I can arrange pcr tests for us today to be on the safe side.
We have both been doing lateral flow tests anyway for our jobs and they have been negative. but I know they aren’t so accurate. Ds also just had his first jab two days ago which probably accounts for some of his symptoms.

Anyone had similar?

I learned today that an elderly neighbour also has a cold with similar symptoms to kind. Very high level in the head and throat but hers is now in the chest. Not sure if she’s taken a test.

But apparently there is an upsurge in cold viruses at the moment due to people not mixing during the winter and also Norovirus is going round.

I'm on day 4 of bad cold symptoms. Fatigue, runny nose, slight temp (not quite 38 though, sore throat and now a cough. PCR home test done yesterday. Repeated clear negative LFTs. If it's a cold, I'd forgotten how crappy they can make you feel!!

Yes! I feel totally miserable with a fluctuating temperature. The hot weather isn't helping I am sure! Also repeated negative LFTs here too. I am double vacinated and I did have a thought could this create a negative result?

I got my PCR back today and it was positive. I'm annoyed how I'm the only one 😁 also very fed up of the constant sneezing. Still no official symptoms though. Glad I tested.

Hope you feel better soon. Have you had any vaccinations?

@treedragon no I don't think being vaccinated affects whether you'd get a positive LFT. But it would probably affect symptoms. The Zoe website suggests delta variant is like a cold in those who have had both vaccines.

Anyone else waiting for results ? Still waiting myself. Got them done yesterday in the morning

@EasterIssland I tested positive on a LFT early hours Monday morning (I woke up feeling like death so went downstairs for a drink and some painkillers, decided to test while I was there) so followed up with a PCR which I took Monday morning. Got my results yesterday.

@WorldsBestBoss I was due my second on Saturday. Now I have to wait 28 days after my positive test. I tried to rebook, but couldn't see further than the 8th. So now I have no second booked, but I will because I feel its important for society

Today I still feel like I have a cold, but nowhere near as bad as I did. Just feel bunged up now and a mild headache. Still none of the official symptoms, just a cold.

My results came as negative

I've had this - sore throat, cough, feeling achey. LFT was negative. I'm double-jabbed. Have been feeling too ill to go out anywhere so am effectively self-isolating anyway.

No results here yet after posting on Monday about 3pm.
Feel awful !! Day 5.

I am hoping my fever has broken today as temp is 37.1. Has been 37.9 when waking up and between 37.7 and 38.3 since Saturday. I’ve been nowhere as I feel like junk. So even if this isn’t Covid I’ve isolated due to symptoms.

@treedragon same here. I wouldn't want anyone else to catch this even if it's a bad cold. I guess COVID has changed my thinking about whether it's ok to spread infections, however benign.

The hot stifling nights haven’t helped either. I’m afraid I’m not into baking hot sunny days and nights and can’t bear lying around in the sand on a beach. I’d rather cosy down in the autumn in a blanket.

I've now got nausea and diarrhoea. Started to feel ill on Friday.....whatever this is it's not nice!

My PCR was negative, thankfully. But still don't feel up to much, coughing up green phlegm and knackered because am sleeping badly.

How is everyone feeling? Today is the first day I've not felt utterly wiped out - that's been 7 days.

Feels like the tail end of a cold now but still after 8 days I can’t smell anything and no taste either. This is some weird kind of bug.

7 days here and have that annoying cough. Have to take sips of water all the time. Sore throat, still needing paracetamol at least once a day and to sleep. Limiting activity. I really had forgot that colds could be this bad !!

Hi all, I'm just curious if any of you felt generally unwell for a while before other symptoms arrived?

I am fully vaccinated and I also had covid last year. I have been feeling tired and generally unwell with a few headaches but nothing else. All LFT negative...

Still no smell and taste back after two and a half weeks. Everyone telling me it must have been covid. Sure the pcr can give a false negative but surely all the subsequent lateral flow tests that I have to do for work would have picked up something?

I’ve had much worse colds than this in the past but never lost my smell. It could only happen to me.

I have this at the moment - started Thursday with banging headache and nausea. Now have all the cold symptoms plus diarrhoea and I feel like I just can’t get enough oxygen in my lungs, but my PCR came back negative this morning, thank goodness. But whatever this is, it’s an absolute bugger - I feel awful.
