I’m so confused about peadiatrics appointments!

I have a child who needs investigations into a growth problem. (She hasn’t grown a single cm in 1.5 years apparently).

I am actually pretty concerned at this point as she was small to begin with so she’s pretty now for a 10 year old!

She has had various blood tests and an X-ray last week.

Today we got a letter with an appointment for her to see a consultant next week then in the same envelope a letter saying that appointment was cancelled because of the “ongoing crisis”!

They aren’t open to call until Monday and it’s sounds silly but I’m really actually worried there is something wrong with her. We have waited nearly a year to get even this far - it’s took nearly 3 months to actually see a gp face to face .

I’m worried I am failing her by not actually getting her seen now!

Why on earth would they send me and appointment and cancel it at the same time - that’s crazy.

Has anyone else had this much difficulty?

Oh goodness what a difficult situation for you. Our last paeds appointment was by telephone though we are due a f2f in a couple of weeks.

You're absolutely not failing her at all. You've done well to get an appointment letter and a cancellation, our other appointment was just cancelled.

Joking aside, I hope you manage to get to speak to at least the consultant's secretary tomorrow (they are generally very helpful) and provide more of an update.

DD has multiple appointments each year with different departments - it's by no means unusual for us to get 2 letters in one envelope. Sometimes one appointment plus the cancellation letter. Sometimes an appointment for something we already have a date for, followed a couple of days later by a cancellation of the original appointment IYSWIM. Strange but true (and so bloody inefficient). To be honest you could get a letter with another appointment within the next few days, or another letter in Summer 2022. Both completely possible! Just ring and check to put your mind at ease Smile
