New need to quarantine after trip to France

Now that rules have changed regarding return to England from France, I’m wondering about the isolation rules. This post is hypothetical before anyone goes bonkers.

DH and I both fully vaccinated. Would be staying in a gite belonging to a relative, unoccupied before and after us. We’d travel by car, and would only be in contact with others during trips to the supermarket.

Why the jeff would we need to isolate on return? Coming from a rural area in France with very low numbers to an urban area in the UK with numbers 10 times higher? And… would anyone check?!

@PicsInRed I think you are right, especially when you look at data for Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands in comparison.

I want to go to France to visit family graves, which is optional I realise, but this may not happen this year.

My thoughts are, what do epidemiologists and virologists do during a pandemic? Well they don’t travel overseas for holidays is one thing. My husband is front line developing drugs to fight this bloody disease and has been working hours you wouldn’t believe. He needs a holiday, but no - we’ve cancelled them last year and this year, because it is the right thing to do.
The sanctimony from a few on this thread is a thing to behold. Honestly, you do you and leave the rest of us to make our own decisions. None of us are planning to anything that is 'against the roolz'. We all stayed at home when we had to. We haven't left the country since January 2020 and last year we cancelled three overseas holidays, while watching many others go off to Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, wherever, but we were good little boys and girls and stayed in the UK, because we weren't vaccinated and felt at the time that was the right decision. Now we are vaccinated and since it's allowed and we are sensible and will not do anything reckless while we're away, we're going. So wind your neck in - and that goes for @NannyAndJohn as well.
