Quarantine rules for UK National returning to England from Germany / EU ?

My DC has been on a year abroad in Germany and due to return in August. She will have been vaccinated twice in Germany by then and will have the vaccine card to prove it but it’s obviously not updated with NHS yet (apparently you can advise NHS on return and they will update records).
Does she have to quarantine on return and if so is that for 14 days ?
Trying to work out when she needs to be back in UK as we have a holiday home booked in UK for a week and if she needs to be here 2 weeks before we go or not.
If she comes back after 16 Aug will she still have to quarantine ?
I have checked rules but does not seem to cover this.

She does. But she shouldn’t bloody have to.

It’s hugely discriminatory and Grant Shapps wailing about countries not allowing the Indian batch vaccines in because they haven’t been played by the EMA while blocking his own citizens who have been vaccinated with jabs which are accepted by the uk is absolutely pathetic.

Apparently the UK can’t cope with the ONE eu green card system, whilst simultaneously expecting every EU country to be able to read the nhs one.

@PersephoneJames
Oh no ! That is what she told me but it didn’t make sense hence my post to check.
Hopefully they will change this rule in next review, as you say especially when we are expecting other countries to let us in but we have far higher levels here....

She needs to quarantine on return but can do the 5 day test to release. Needs to buy the Day 2 and 8 package. Get the cheapest as it brings her no benefit personally. Then book a separate Day 5 test to release. Recommend Boots in person.

Was coming on to post exactly what @MinervaMcGonagall45 said.

Bramshott · 15/07/2021 16:34

Yes she can do Day 5 test to release. Result usually comes on Day 6 or Day 7, so if she arrives 1 week before your holiday it should be okay.

EileenGC · 15/07/2021 16:38

The others are correct, she technically only needs to do 5 days, but right now all the testing malarkey still applies to her.

I'm in an almost identical situation and it's utterly stupid that other countries' vaccines aren't yet recognised by the UK. I'm hoping this changes soon but knowing the amazing government there is, it could be sorted next week or in October (most likely) Sad

I was hoping Germany would be put on the green list as our rates are extremely low, but of course there's no chance of that. I'm tired of this political game, it makes absolutely no sense.

If she can send proof of her vaccinations in Germany to her GP in the UK, they should be able to update her NHS record before she comes home.

If she has the NHS app on her phone, her Covid vaccines should then appear in the Health Record section under Immunisations. It won't generate a QR code but it's still proof of vaccination that should allow her to avoid having to quarantine and pay for 3 tests.

Thank you everyone for your advice, that’s really helpful.

I would hate to think that this is because the Government are getting a backhander from the UK travel agencies but not vice versa

SortCode · 27/07/2021 00:47

I have the opposite. 16 yr old DS needs to get to Germany soon.

He has has Covid...GP is drafting me a letter to prove he is recovered

We will do a pcr test so will have a certificate

He will stay at home for 14 days prior to flying

BUT they wont let him in because he's not vaccinated!!!! Spoke to German Embassy and Border today.

GP wont vaccinate as only 16 and no underying conditions

So as he's going for sport trial/to play (classed as Elite) last attempt is to email border police at Munich and detail why he needs to travel, attach letter from sports club. It can take around 7-10days.

If he cant go it will shatter him

A pity in a way your DD could not stay in Germany, though I understand she may be missing you.
