Loss of taste?

I have a pcr test booked for tomorrow!

Today I've been fine bunged up/snotty could taste everything however this evening it seems to have just gone, I can tell I've got something sweet/salty in my mouth but I just can't taste it. Did anybody else have this?

Many people have had this. It's one of the main symptoms since pretty early on. I'm surprised you didn't know.

greasedlightning23 · 14/07/2021 17:30

@Marianicka I thought it was just complete loss of taste/smell 🤦🏻‍♀️

I’ve had this since March 2020

greasedlightning23 · 14/07/2021 17:34

@AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair that is very true! 😀

For example brown sauce I can still taste that twang but I can't taste the actual sauce, I'm probably not making any sense. 😆

@0None0 oh no. It's only been a few hours for me and it's driving me insane!

Not through COVID, but I’ve lost my taste and smell from something else a few months ago. It’s awful

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 14/07/2021 18:03

Your tongue can distinguish sweet, salty, sour and bitter but your nose does all the work re actual flavours. So it makes sense that if you lose your smell, your taste is massively compromised. You still have tastebuds on your tongue so will still get the basics, but without the smell part, you won’t get anything more complex.

poshme · 14/07/2021 18:21

@greasedlightning23 you make total sense to me.
I have covid. Lost sense of smell, and consequently can only taste sweet/salt/savoury/bitter.

Hoping it'll pass quickly!

greasedlightning23 · 14/07/2021 18:39

@poshme thank you for understanding, it's a strange feeling, i get the sour/sweet/salty taste but not the actual food it's really strange. Will keep you all posted of my results!

If you normally like olives don't eat them.

They're horrible when you can only taste bitter... Smile
