Can the coronavirus disease spread through feces?

leeshuhui · 14/07/2021 07:40

The virus that causes COVID-19 has been found in the feces of some patients diagnosed with COVID-19. However, it is unclear whether the virus found in feces may be capable of causing COVID-19. There has not been any confirmed report of the virus spreading from feces to a person. What do you think?

We can’t ban people from shitting.

Well, quite!

We can't ban people from exhaling either.

But we can set conditions to minimise contact with everyone's effluvia

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 15/07/2021 11:07

So does this mean that since its an airborne disease and there's concern about it in feces that we now have to be concerned about being near people and inhaling farts? Because of "poo particles" and all. 😂😂😂

Don’t you already try to minimise contact with other people’s effluvia?

maybe public toilets will be closing again soon then....who knows where this virus will go

Ifitquacks · 15/07/2021 16:56

I hope not. Closing public toilets meant that my 89 year old grandmother with a bladder issue couldn’t leave her house for months (she had a regular walking route that took her passed public toilets, and this is how she maintained her mobility). She is unable to walk more than a meter or two now after so long without gentle exercise. Would hate that to happen to anyone else, as at that age once you lose your mobility you don’t get it back.

QueenOfPain · 15/07/2021 17:00

Well, as well don't ingest people's poo I don't think that it's much of a worry.
If we did, then yes, we could probably catch the virus from it.

Well that logic doesn’t work when you consider humans manage to spread Norovirus and certain strains of Hepatitis amongst other things that are also spread through the faecal-oral route.

TiddleTaddleTat · 15/07/2021 17:05

Yes this is how SARS spread, there were some extraordinary examples of a superspreader event via sewage

Allaboutthatbass · 15/07/2021 17:11

Good job arse coverings are mandatory in public Grin

XenoBitch · 15/07/2021 17:17

I read that it could be detected in faeces. And wasn't it China who was using anal swabs to detect it too?

Bit of a leap here, but if you can catch it from poo (easily avoidable if you don't eat it, snort it or stick it on your eyes), then surely farts could pose an infection risk too. Time to make charcoal pant filters mandatory Grin

MRex · 15/07/2021 17:20

What are charcoal pant filters, and do I need to get some for DH?

XenoBitch · 15/07/2021 17:23

You can actually get them on Amazon. Is like a charcoal panty liner for your arse so your farts are not so life threatening to those around you. I know a fair few people who need to use them too!
MRex · 15/07/2021 17:27

Hmmmm. That doesn't sound like something I can sneakily add. Washable boxer briefs made out of charcoal might be the way to go...
