Moderna and red arm after - anyone had this?

I had my second Moderna jab on Sun. Felt a bit feverish that night, v tired next day, but no biggie.

Today during a Zoom call I noticed a shadow/ mark on my arm about 6 in away from where the jab was. When I looked, it was a warm red slightly raised area of skin about the size of a 20p piece.

Over the course of the day it has got bigger, spreading down my arm. It is now about 2in wide.

The leaflet says redness at the injection site is normal - but this isn't exactly the injection site and it's appeared 36h later.

Ignore or contact GP?

I should say it's not bothering me so might just leave a couple of days and see if it goes away?

I would apply something soothing and give it a few days. Likely to resolve on its own from the sounds of it.

If it is away from the jab site, I would call the doctor. I had Moderna arm but it was definitely right at the jab site. Other issues can still occur so best to get it checked

Thanks! It has got bigger today again but less red and hot so will leave for now.

Check with a GP that it isn't cellulitis.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 15/07/2021 00:03

Thanks - I thought that too but it is fading and my GP wouldn't see someone for this. We tried to get an appt this week as my toddler son cut his face and I was concerned it was infected or needed someone to look at it, but they would only do a phone appt unless he developed a sustained fever.

Useless GP, they should at least be looking at photos.
How is your son?

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 15/07/2021 22:46

Thanks. His face has started to go down so looks like the practice nurse was right and they didn't need to see him! Still not sure what to do if he did get an infection, but oh well.

Im getting fed up with this sort of thing. The public are doing their bit by having these vaccines. The least they can do is see someone to check it out/ reassure them if something like this happens.

I had this after my first Moderna jab. Started 7 days after, lasted a couple of days and disappeared.

MRex · 16/07/2021 07:23

Poor boy, I hope he's better soon (and your arm too). I'd switch GP if they were like that with my boy to be honest, that's quite shocking.

From the Govt yellow card report:

Delayed hypersensitivity reactions
The MHRA has been reviewing reports of skin reactions occurring around the vaccination site that appear a little while after vaccination. These reactions are suggestive of a delayed hypersensitivity reaction that occurs 4-11 days after vaccination. The reactions are characterized by a rash, swelling and tenderness that can cover the whole upper arm and may be itchy and/or painful and warm to the touch. The majority of the reports received have been with the Moderna vaccine .

The reactions are usually self-limiting and resolve within a day or two, although in some patients it can take slightly longer to disappear. Individuals who experience this reaction after their first dose may experience a similar reaction in shorter timeframe following the second dose, however, none of the reports received have been serious and people should still take their second dose when invited. Those who experience delayed skin reactions after their COVID-19 vaccination which do not resolve within a few days should seek medical advice.

DS1 had the same a week after the Moderna but it went back to normal.

CoolShoeshine · 16/07/2021 08:05

My dd had it too, one week after, appeared very suddenly. The redness and swelling were quite extensive, about 12cm in length. Doc said to keep an eye on it and it went after 2-3 days.

kikisparks · 16/07/2021 08:08

I had this, appeared a few days after the vaccine and went away a few days later.

I had this after my first moderna, started 7 days after the vaccine, it was red and very itchy, disappeared after 3 days

I had similar with Pfizer. The rash went very quickly but the sensitivity it still there weeks later.
