That the restrictions were lifted in time for children not to make it to the end of the school year.

They have had the crappest 17 months, such a massive chunk of their childhood, they deserve at least to not have this level of uncertainty about the last few days of term and their transitions into next year’s class/school. My heart is breaking for them.

And teachers, you’re amazing 💐

@comedycook well I've been feeling awful for almost a week now. High temp, constant headache, not sleeping, coughing, full on head cold type thing. Aching muscles & bones.
Totally lost my sense of smell & nearly all sense of taste. Can barely get out of bed.

And I've had 2 jabs.

Kids not quite as bad, but 2 of my DC have had headaches, coughs & no smell or taste for 6 days and still not getting better...

MirandaWest · 13/07/2021 16:33

My DCs school is closed - all lessons online. Think there’s over 600 isolating and 35 teachers. School was open yesterday but that turned out to be the last day.

Feels like a kick in the teeth having all restrictions removed on the 19th.

MarshaBradyo · 13/07/2021 16:38

What do you mean? What was lifted

I can’t tell which thing you’re referring to

TheOrigRights · 13/07/2021 16:38

Better now than in Sept I feel.

I hope DS makes it to the end. He's yr7 and it's been the oddest introduction to secondary school, not to mention the rather crappy yr6.

There are lots of bubble bursting in the other secondary school in the town, so I'm surprised we're still OK. 3 days to go.......

Well I hope you all feel better soon but isolating dozens of children every time there's a positive case doesn't seem to be working and is hugely disruptive. Most of the children isolating won't even go on to develop covid

I don’t think we even know that because I don’t think they even try to count it. The children count for so little in our govt’s eyes, they didn’t even bother tracking that, just sent them all home.

I hear you OP. It's totally rubbish. Same situation here too Thanks

herecomesthsun · 13/07/2021 19:21

Actually, I really don't want my secondary school child to get covid. I wouldn't mind at all if he went off at this point. If he is off, then there's a reasonable chance of getting a vaccine before going back in September.

All the private schoolkids will be off by now and the chance of very much work getting done at this point in term is surely quite low.

I don't feel angry at the isolations, more concerned at the "herd immunity for kids" idea - I don't want the Government to opt for that.

I definitely want my Year 6 to finish the term

Really hoping he’ll make it and get all the nice stuff - say goodbye properly , sports day and production they’ve been practising

Thanks Comedy!

1.5 weeks to go

NoGoodOptions · 13/07/2021 19:29

Nearly 800k isolating this week. 11% of the country's schoolchildren, are at home isolating for 39k confirmed cases. This isn't ok and I'm furious.

Mischance · 13/07/2021 19:34

The school where I am governor is maintaining bubbles and restrictions till the end of term. The only relaxation has been to allow socially distanced parents to sports day. I think they have made the right decision. No point in risking spread at this stage - the children need to be well to enjoy their holidays.

There is a sense of deja vu about this - remember BJ sending school children back for a couple of days - just long enough to pick up the bug - and then changing his mind a couple of days later?

CroissantDog · 13/07/2021 19:52

Thank you for the flowers but it's too late. Many children are infected and they're passing it onto the teachers who haven't had a chance to be vaccinated yet.

Why haven't they been vaccinated. All adults can be now. If they are particularly young teachers who have only recently been able to get the jab, then they'll be very low risk anyway
DaisyWaldron · 13/07/2021 20:25

I'm 46 and got my second vaccine last week, at the first available opportunity, so it will be another week before I count as fully vaccinated. I don't know anyone in my city under 50 (apart from clinically vulnerable, carers etc) who is 2 weeks past their second vaccine yet.
