Chances of this PCR being negative??

DS (12) has covid.
He has been fairly ill, but no medical assistance required other than paracetamol and Mummy cuddles. So I've been in quite close contact. Plus 6 hrs in a car (dont ask, it's been a disaster).
I've got a splitting headache for 3 days now. Dodgy tummy.
2 negative lateral flow tests.
PCR test tonight.
What's the chances its negative and I can walk out of the front door on my birthday?? If I get covid, I'll be isolating on my birthday.....

Given what we know about increased transmission, I'd say slim. 20% maybe?

ThelmaDinkley · 12/07/2021 16:15

Fingers crossed you don’t get it and test negative but I caught it from my daughter who’s caught it off her friend so it is easily transmitted. All the best for your birthday.

minipie · 12/07/2021 16:19

Are you vaccinated?

There are other bugs going around too. DC1 had a headache, temperature and dodgy tummy all last week but PCR was negative.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 12/07/2021 16:24

You'll not be able to walk out your front door anyway considering your isolation due to your DC. Birthday or no birthday sorry. 😟 DS spent his 18th isolating after being a contact. I think ....and yes sad that I don't remember....but I believe mine this year was spent the same!

Nat6999 · 12/07/2021 16:25

I'm in the same boat, ds started last Wednesday with a sore throat, temperature & headache, 2 negative LFT tests & now waiting for results of a PCR test.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 12/07/2021 16:25

Oh no hang on. Is your birthday in a few days' time? Even so. Your symptoms do sound a bit covidy. Sorry.

Kakey1294129 · 12/07/2021 16:28

It really depends. I know of plenty of households who have had a covid case in the house and it's only been only family member but delta is more transmissible so might be more likely now.

I think my children had it last year (no tests are the time). Me and dp did not catch whatever it was. Even if wasn't covid. It was nasty and I had never experienced anything quite like it - they were so poorly. But again the delta variant wasn't the dominant variant then.

poshme · 12/07/2021 16:41

I have covid. Confirmed withPCR. Caught from DC.
I have done 4 LFTs over the last week.
Every single one was negative.

Sorry.

PeonyTime · 12/07/2021 17:04

Yeah, if noone else in the house gets covid, I'm freed for my birthday. If isolation gets extended in any way, I'm inside for my birthday. I'm not seeing it as "test to release".

My fear is its covid. Had enough of this now. At least results are coming back faster than when DS had covid-y symptoms last year. Took them over a week to return a negative result then.

Single vaccinated.

I was 10 days post 2nd jab.

PCR took 4 days for result.

Good luck OP

My daughter had negative LF tests twice a week then had a PCR due to close contact with a confirmed case.

PCR was positive.

She did a LF again, still negative.

Your symptoms sound like Covid. Hope you're ok.

PeonyTime · 13/07/2021 12:25

It was negative. As was DHs and other childs.
