My DS (18) got a positive test yesterday , so isolated in his room from then ,he’s been ill with headache, coughing and sneezing.

DH is his Dad’s (who has terminal cancer and is quite unwell ) main carer .

we are not sure if DH should go and isolate with his Dad to help him as the Macmillan nurse said they won’t be able to go and see his dad as he’s been in contact with us ….

The nurse suggested DH could isolate with his Dad ..? But it’s that the right thing to do - what if he gives his dad covid ,?

Dh and his Dad are both double jabbed , so hopefully have some immunity.

if DH doesn’t move in with dad , it’s a nightmare because we can’t leave the house fir the next 10 days ,,,?

What does his dad want him to do - visit or avoid? Unless fil has been in contact with ds he does not otherwise need to isolate.

Do the "household bubbles"/ extended households still apply?

If so, I'd say that as FIL is part of your household in that respect (despite living elsewhere), he needs to isolate at the same time, so it would make sense for your DH to isolate with his father, so to continue providing care.

FiL also needs to notify any carers coming in that someone in the household has tested positive.

If extended households no longer apply, I'm not sure what happens. I'd probably still go along with DH continuing to provide care to his father and isolating in his home.

Thanks for your post - Well yes that’s what i thought , but his macmillan nurse has said he needs to self isolate ,,?

I think that DH will go and stay at his dads after the weekend , which will be after he’s done 4 covid tests everyday

Dh had to si when discharged from hospital (another patient in the same bay had tested positive) but carers, therapists etc still came.

Let his dad make the decision himself.
