Confused about isolation period?

Looking back my DS started symptoms on Thursday 1st July but we didn’t test him until Sunday 3rd. Positive PCR result arrived on Monday. Rest of us negative PCR and staying well away from him in house. Different floor/bathroom.

I thought we would be out of quarantine on Monday 12th- counting 10 days from the 1st. (Rules say 10 days from test/ symptoms whichever earliest) But just got a text that says Wednesday 14th. This is a big blow as my DD has a national sports match the day before for national selection.

Can anyone help?

well this is weird, despite having a clear positive on lateral flow (2 tests) see attached result) The PCR test results are negtive so no need for me or them to isolate now, thanks for the responses though, i had no idea false positives were so common, thought it was more likely to be false negatives.

@Jenasaurus I would still be careful around your boss, a pcr can give a false negative. My daughter went in to isolation because of a friends positive lf which was done at school. The pcr was negative but because it was a school lf they still had to isolate. My daughter developed covid during her isolation.

About your daughters thyroid, that shouldn't make her more at risk from covid.

I agree and already cancelled my face to face meetng to keep them safe and as I work from home apart from the monthly face to face I wont be putting anyone at risk, just in case.

My DS friend is now planning on meeting his friends in the pub today to watch the football so that is more of a concern if the PCR was a false result and the Lateral Flow actually correct. I am guessing this is how it is spreading too.
