not having to wear a mask feels weird?

With all this talk about masks not being required, does anyone feel weird having to go out in public unmasked?

no its completely natural and normal to be "unmasked".

Being masked has only been around for just under a year ......... I can't wait to the whole mask thing is over

Also you don't HAVE to go out unmasked. Wear one if you want.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 08/07/2021 11:13

Nope, I only wear one at work and when I go to shops so relatively short spaces of time can’t wait to see people and be able to communicate normally again

FourTeaFallOut · 08/07/2021 11:14

No. It was so unusual for the vast majority of our lives that it will feel totally normal for most people almost straight away. As easy as falling off a diet Grin.

ColettesEarrings · 08/07/2021 11:18

Nope, feels fabulous!

zaragirl84 · 08/07/2021 11:22

Not weird to me, I can't wait.

I suspect that the quiet majority will stop wearing them, but we shall see.

EileenGC · 08/07/2021 11:22

I'm currently in Spain where masks were compulsory for everyone including children, and everywhere including outdoors, between July 2020 - 26th June 2021. I got here last weekend and talking to people, it's surprising how many of them find it really bizarre being allowed to finally take them off when you're outside and socially distanced. 80% of people still wear them on an empty street. They just can't switch, it does feel weird for them.

A bit different for those of us who only had to put them on for work, shops or public transport. I can't wait to get rid of my mask but I think it's because I felt it was an 'extra' thing I was wearing. Whereas in other countries, it simply became normal, just like putting on shoes. They didn't leave their house without putting on their shoes, or their masks.

Whyevencare · 08/07/2021 11:37

No I ditched the mask three months ago, it's so nice being able to breathe properly again Smile

newnortherner111 · 08/07/2021 12:47

I don't wear one in the street, want it to continue indoors and on public transport.

What is weird is that there are still some people who think Mr Johnson is a capable Prime Minister.

Geamhradh · 08/07/2021 12:52

Where I am the restrictions to wear them outside was lifted two weeks ago, and initially it felt like you were out without your pants on Grin
As with wearing one, you quickly get used to not. Must remember to pluck the lovely menopausal moustache more often though!

LucilleTheVampireBat · 08/07/2021 12:52

Nothing weird about it. It's weird to think wearing a mask is normal.

LightAsTheBreeze · 08/07/2021 12:52

I suppose it depends how much you wear one, I only pop one on as I go in a shop so will be glad not to do that so it will not feel weird. I guess if you wear one all day at work and a lot when you go out it will seem a bit more different.

grapewine · 08/07/2021 12:54

It was weird for about a day.

We still have to wear them getting in and out of busses and trains etc and when standing on public transport. Plus in doctor's waiting rooms, which I almost forgot yesterday. Luckily, I always carry a few.

grapewine · 08/07/2021 12:54

This is in Denmark btw.

wasthataburp · 08/07/2021 12:56

No. Covering your face in public is what is unnatural

SmidgenofaPigeon · 08/07/2021 12:58

No, it feels great.

And I’ve never worn one outside. That’s totally unnecessary.

vintageglass · 08/07/2021 13:02

Yes, here in Italy after it being mandatory for so long to wear one outdoors. The rules were very recently changed, but I am still wearing mine and a reported 8 out of 10 people still are too. Feel naked without it!

osbertthesyrianhamster · 08/07/2021 13:04

No

nothingnobleaboutstalking · 08/07/2021 13:13

Yes, I like masks - sorrynotsorry
You do you.

Mixmeup · 08/07/2021 14:55

I like masks too. I don’t want strangers’ germs all over me on the bus anyway.

LucyLockdownLover · 08/07/2021 15:26

Tbh I think I'll keep wearing mine.

Problem is I get strange looks from security guards if you're walking near certain places, they look at you as if you're going to steal something with a mask on.

BogRollBOGOF · 08/07/2021 15:37

It was liberating.
I was stuck between the fear of regular sensory overwhelm/ panic attacks and fear of abuse for having the audacity to display my face in public. I stopped in January after a particularly unpleasant reaction and the fear quickly passed as nothing happened over my next few shopping trips.

Some places I never did wear one (such as swimming lessons) because the environment was far too likely to be a rapid trigger anyway. I just took a bit more care of sitting away from others (which suited me anyway)

Topseyt · 08/07/2021 15:38

I don't think I will find it weird at all. It will be a relief.

Not even slightly. I go out "in public" without a mask all the time, to outdoor places and when sitting down in pubs etc so its not like a stranger hasn't seen my face for months.

And I keep almost forgetting to put my mask on anyway

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 08/07/2021 16:33

why would it be weird?
Have you developed Stockholm syndrome with your mask?

I don't wear one unless I'm going inside a building and I still hate it. It makes me cough - how's that for irony
