Legs swollen post vaccine, what is it?

Namechanged for privacy.

I'm so worried. A loved one is a few days post vaccine and her legs have suddenly swollen up. She phoned me briefly from A & E where the gp sent her, but got called in by the nurse so I'm sitting here worrying.

It was the Moderna vaccine. I had the same one myself, had no issues like this. Obviously everyone reacts differently but can't help worrying if it could be something really serious like a sign of a clot?

It's much more likely to be some type of skin reaction right? Has anyone had swollen legs after their vaccine?

I'm sorry to hear that, op, I get why you're feeling worried, there could be a few reasons for swollen legs aside from the vaccine.

In the hospital they will get a full set of vital signs and rule out other causes, they are likely to test for dvt and maybe treat accordingly.

It's hard to wait, but she's is in the right place! Do you have someone with you?

Perhaps give the staff time to do their investigations and call the unit if your relative isn't able to use her phone.

Here with a Brew for you xx

I've not had swollen legs after the vaccine but she is in the best place to get evaluated and treated if needed.

In the past I've had swollen legs from heat and long car journeys so there can be minor causes which self-resolve but they will need to rule out a clot.

Thank you, yes you're completely right that relative is in exactly the right place.

A cup of tea to settle the anxiety is a good idea too!

Many vaccine side effects are transient so try not to worry.
