Covid antibody test via ZOE

Hi, I had an email from ZOE offering me a covid antibody test. I've been accepted as suitable (it's not on offer for everyone) and my finger prick test will arrive in 5 days. I'll be really interested to see the results as I was ill with a bad chest in feb/March/April 2020 and have had 5 courses of steroids since then for recurrent asthma exacerbations which I've never had before at such a rate. My chest hasn't recovered fully since then and I've got a chest X-ray booked for the end of the week to see if anything shows in there.
Has anyone had their antibodies checked via ZOE or any other way?

If you've ever done a thriva at home blood test it's exactly the same. In fact I think thriva handle the samples. It's not a pin prick test but is easy once you know how - key is being well hydrated and keeping your hand in warm water for a while first.

No antibodies in mine.

@ArnoldBee does the ONS one test for vaccine antibodies too?
@ArnoldBee does the ONS one test for vaccine antibodies too?
It doesn't specify it just states antibodies present and as the last time I had any potential covid symptoms was March 2020 I'm assuming the antibodies are from my jab.

I did the antibody test last week - I had no problems doing the test or getting enough blood out, but it's now been 11 days since I did the test and sent the sample and I've still not heard the result. Has anyone else had to wait this long?

SheilaTakeABow · 17/07/2021 14:16

I did one a month ago; still have antibodies from PCR confirmed Covid last October. Made a right hash of the pinprick though and my finger was a bruised mess for over a week!

Lau52 · 17/07/2021 18:58

I did one last month and tested positive for anti bodies. Was quite surprised as never had main covid symptoms to warrant a test so not sure when may or had it.

BlowDryRat · 17/07/2021 19:14

I did one for ZOE this week and it came back in a couple of days (negative). I ran up and down the stairs a couple of times to get the blood pumping but wish I hadn't bothered. I was late collecting DD from school because I couldn't get it it to stop!

Thisusedtobeaniceneighbourhood · 17/07/2021 19:20

Another here who had covid in spring 2020 (almost certainly, as was very poorly and lost smell etc), but no antibodies in May 2021. I had mine tested at the GP to help with decisions about AZ vs Pfizer (but then they changed the advice re: under 40s anyway)

RebeccaCloud9 · 17/07/2021 19:22

Yes, but I never got the results back!!! Very annoying as it was horrible to do.

Abraxan · 17/07/2021 19:40

@Runningquestion

Did anyone else have an issue with their blood being too thick to do this properly? I just about managed to get enough in the vial, but then it said to turn it upside down 10 times to mix the blood and that it should cost the vial. But mine just stubbornly sat there and wouldn’t mix or even move at all, like it was solid.

(Came back negative which is no surprise as I had it in Feb 2020 so too long ago for antibodies to show up).

Mine was too thick and sticky, and I had to virtually scrape it from my finger into the vial. It didn't move when I had to shake it to mix. Took ages too.

Still came back fine - with antibodies. I tested positive in October.

unchienandalusia · 18/07/2021 14:56

I got a text the day after I posted it. No antibodies. I think I had it over Christmas but that's over 6 months ago. Results clearly said testing only for antibodies from having covid, not the vaccine. And that it was mostly likely it was only viable for 6months.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/07/2021 12:44

We just had the results for the ONS anti body test- both DH and I tested positive, yay!!!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/07/2021 12:45

Anyone know if the ONS are testing for Covid or vaccine antibodies,I can't tell....?

Bells3032 · 21/07/2021 12:50

I got it a couple of days ago but says not to post if weather is over 25 degree so waiting for next week to do it.

Does it only test infection or also for vaccine antibodies?

For anyone needing to those tests a hint for getting blood out is use the side of your little finger. Bleeds so much better

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/07/2021 13:11

Can anyone do a Zoe antibody test?

Lakeshore6 · 21/07/2021 16:22

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor I believe you have to be part of a study / invited.

But I can’t say whether anyone could

Lakeshore6 · 21/07/2021 16:24

@Bells3032 sounds like it depends on the study? Mine was with ZOE and it’s only infection antibodies.

But I assumed all the tests that were sent out were all the same. Perhaps not

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/07/2021 16:34

I've ordered one, as part of the ONS I'm eligible, I didn't realise u til I read up on it.

Bells3032 · 21/07/2021 16:40

@lakeshore6 I think mines zoe. I just got a message from the NHS website

FizziWater · 21/07/2021 17:12

Don't know if this is the right place to post this but I volunteer for various research studies. This one is looking for more volunteers particularly among 18 to 40 age group.

Sent my blood test off this afternoon, will be interesting to see the results.

PickAChew · 25/07/2021 01:01

I got this test. Normally struggle with fingeeprick tests but watched the video and bled all over the box that had to be sent back, ending up with a really tender hematoma where I pricked!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 25/07/2021 01:05

I didn't realise you have to stand, didn't on the first one and it took 15 mins, this took 2 seconds and could've filled a pint glassGrin
