Will CV people under 40 have a booster of AZ if they had AZ for both doses?

DH is diabetic and in 30s. He had both AZ doses. One before it was restricted in that age group, so he went on to have his second.

Which vax will they offer for a booster in that age group at the end of the year?

I don't think anyone on here can tell you.

MRex · 05/07/2021 07:50

Nobody knows yet what boosters will be offered to whom.

SexTrainGlue · 05/07/2021 08:08

Not yet announced

There have been trials of mixing the types of vaccines and they are promising, so it might happen but we simply don't know yet

QueenStromba · 05/07/2021 08:09

I don't see them giving AZ to anyone as a booster unless Novavax and valneva aren't approved.

Bagelsandbrie · 05/07/2021 08:16

I am wondering this too. I had AZ for both doses and I’d prefer something else as a booster but I think we will just have to wait and see.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/07/2021 08:19

I also had AZ at 50

I think they're going to be giving what you didn't have as a booster to everyone as efficacy is improved

They REALLY need to get on with the booster programme, I need it soon

LaurieFairyCake · 05/07/2021 08:20

Actually have any HCP's had a booster yet ?

Those who starred in December/January are fast approaching booster time

nether · 05/07/2021 09:10

They have announced the programme for boosters will begin in September

Frontline health and social care workers will be in group one, alongside the CEV and the immunosuppressed (over 16), care home residents and all over 70.

Group 2 is household of CEV, all those over 16 who qualify for a flu jab on health grounds and all over 50s

I dunno, never like the thought of mixing my drinks. I had AZ and would prefer the same for boosters.

Forgottenyeti · 05/07/2021 09:31

I thought I read somewhere that you could only ever have 2 doses of AZ because of the type of vaccine.

rainbowunicorn · 05/07/2021 10:29

Nobody on here will be able to answer that as nothing has been confirmed. The plans are being drawn up now.

I've read this too, that you can only have two doses of AZ. Not sure if there's a time limit, but what I read (can't remember where) suggested that it wouldn't be used as a booster this year,
MikeHat · 05/07/2021 10:56

No one knows but it's highly likely everyone will get a different booster as early indication from trials are showing a big increase in immunity from mixing vaccines. So presumably those who had pfizer will get AZ and vice versa.

Twilightstarbright · 05/07/2021 12:59

Surely they won’t give AZ to under 40s even as a booster?

That's not true, trials of the extra booster showed high efficacy. www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/oxford-covid-vaccine-produces-strong-immune-response-booster-shot-study-2021-06-28/
