Sat here feeling like the worst parent on the planet.
Daughter got send home from school on Friday. School said they were sending home due to Lft and awaiting pcr results. I have taken this to mean she must not leave the house. She stayed home Friday and yesterday. We have still not heard any update from the school.
Today is a family gathering on hubby's side. 2year olds party in the next town. Daughter was very upset she couldn't go. I understand her frustration but happy to stay home with her. DB isn't attending the party because he is playing cricket.
Anyway long story short, he's taken her to the party after giving her a lateral flow and checking with his sister (the host) I've stayed home. His parents are bringing her home I think. Feel crap for being the bad guy and his family will all be slagging me off. So many arguments over bloody Covid. Do you think I'm in the wrong?

No, you're not in the wrong if she has been told to isolate. I'm a bit confused about the reasons for her being sent home though. Did she get a positive lateral flow test in school? Was the pcr test for her or for a classmate?

Either way, if she was instructed to isolate, she shouldn't be going out at all. Your DH is a selfish idiot.

Is your daughter waiting on pcr results? If so you’re the one in the right.

MMMarmite · 04/07/2021 14:06

If it's her who had the positive lft, then she should absolutely start home.

If it's a contact... I'd have the same opinion as you. But also can see where your partner is coming from.

Friendships and relationships with different views on covid risk are so difficult to manage, you have my sympathy. If they slag you off though, that's utterly unfair.

SnapeIsMyHero · 04/07/2021 14:29

Sorry it wasn't clear, it's her classmate with the positive Lft

Thank you for your replies they have made me feel a little better.

I thought the class only had to isolate once someone’s PCR came back positive, then they are close contacts of a confirmed case?

I didn’t know they had to isolate after a positive LFT. {goes back to check rules}

Daisy829 · 04/07/2021 14:41

I think at this stage people are sort of doing what they want. In a couple of weeks it sounds like close contacts will be able to carry on after doing a negative lateral flow so although she should really have stayed at home, everyone has different levels of risk they are comfortable with.

@everythingthelighttouches makes a really good point actually it’s us usually after a pcr test isolation starts. I guess the school is being cautious.

No one is wrong or right here, you prioritised covid rules and your dh prioritised dd's mental health. I would have done the same as your dh but I don't think you're necessarily wrong

In schools where there are already positive cases, Local Authorities are starting to ask children to stay at home when a pupil is awaiting a PCR to confirm. It's so it doesn't overwhelm the school and avoid having to close to everyone.

At my DCs school it's isolate as soon as there is a positive lft and go back if the PCR is positive. That seems the sensible option to me.
