I know they talking about irreversible freedom on July 19th as they feel vaccines have broken the link between increased hospitalisation and deaths.

However I assume if either you or member of your household is postive you have to stay at home.
Re schools if child's ill postice they have stay at home
Some schools have closed because of lack of staff and also NHS staff off to look after kids 375k kids off school last 7 days I think I read.
My sons class is on doube isolate period back 1 day then off again 10 days really feel for working parents as many won't get paid causing some families be short in money.
The self isolating grant I think its tricky to get.
Furlough changes soon
If people have less money they spend less.
We due go short UK break soon so we avoiding anything like pubs, restaurants anything have to sign onto.

We know Aand E department are hugely busy and it's summer and many are children.
We know under 30s seem be largest rate of infections.
That we fear other respiratory illnesses and flu maybe worry this winter.
We know its unlikely the NHS will be able meet the demand for mental health.

I just think looking at covid under narrow vision if NHS is flawed.

Our education system is a mess.
So are many employers short on staff if we let the virus let rip with no mitigating measured.
Many haven't had 2nd vaccines some haven't had 1st.

No plans vaccinate 12 to 16.

I just don't buy the economic argument we open everything up no restrictions the economy will recover.
With combination of some on long term sick benefit, mass staff absence and people having less money to spend.
We are being cautious as haven't ruled out another lockdown this autumn winter which really hit us hard financially.

However we can open up sports but bot ensure gps see face to face is beyond me.

We need a joined up plan that doesn't just look at deaths / admissions or gdp.
We need invest in loads of measures like ventilation in schools.
Maybe give all kids free school meals
Invest in childcare

How the heck we going to build back better its not all about infrastructure projects and houses many can't afford .

I'm really concerned about next 6 to 12 months I don't especially care about holidays abroad.

I'm frustrated with media not asking these questions.
Everyone's tired, fed up and thinking very short term ie holiday, no masks, no distancing but other looking at wider picture.
Maybe if you don't have kids you less affected.

Its been so hard home school twice.
Cost me loads extra food and supplies.
All 3 if my kids have had self isolate.
I'm fortunate I'm at home with toddler whos hardly gone anywhere.

I'm just fed up i want to be postive and see a way out but seems impossible right now.

Best analogy I can think of is uk has little fires everywhere In schools, hospitals, gps , football stadium and some hospitality shutting.
We maybe putting some fires out in ice and wards meanwhile a and e is overwhelmed.
Primary, nursery, secondary and university all have their own problems.

How to we continue help support night clubs / musicians/ arts and tourism .
How do we create more jobs as many jobs on high street lates casualty gap.
How do we save our high streets i don't want to buy every thing online.

And yet in the face of all of this we have cases rising very quickly in summer when this should be optimal conditions for a plateau. Imagine how fast the numbers will rise without any mitigation in place and people believing they are invincible because they had a vaccination yet don’t actually know how protected they are.

So far the government’s plan appears to be open everything up and hope for the best. Autumn will be extremely difficult because it will be blindingly obvious just how bad things can get and those industries you mentioned such as retail and leisure will suffer enormously because the financial support will be gone.

It’s not quite the rosy outlook BoJo would like you to believe awaits us after July 21st.

I never really brought into the seasonality aspect as warm countries also had a problem its very different to flu. South America , India and South Africa are warm climates.

Rates were so low last summer compared to this one.
Weirdly less restrictions last year.
Undoubtedly travel opening up last year and no mitigating measures in school led to nov mockdown and then hard lockdown in jan.
Its frustrating keep making same mistakes.

All I see on social media and here is people moaning they want to go away abroad, they want to be able see gps.
They want school bubbles and isolating gone.
They want masks social distancing and restricted numbers gone.
They want everyone jabbed but don't care about teenagers.

Theres element of im alright Jack attitude I can work from home, I habent been too disruptor and my finances are ok.

No ones thinking longer term summer of total freedom could lead to a hard locdown of it mutates to something vaccines cant fight , mass absence from the work force.
Not to mention social unrest as financial support ends, every man for themselves.

I think they know there will be a winter lockdown so letting people have freedom now. Cases numbers are getting out of control and hospitalizations have jumped up. Delta variant is very transmissable.

QueenStromba · 02/07/2021 11:24

The problem is though that more cases = more opportunity for mutations to arise, the last thing we need is for delta to pick up some of the beta variant mutations when the majority of vaccines given have been AZ. We're actually setting up the ideal conditions for that to happen. It's exactly like how you would create an antibiotic resistant strain of bacteria in a lab - grow bacteria in a culture with not quite enough antibiotics to kill them off entirely. This government has learned nothing from alpha just like they learned nothing from being far too slow to lockdown lady spring.

Yes and I'm sure one will emerge soon as no one seems to care about it. In face like you said, we are setting up the perfect conditions. Especially will mass events and a partially vaccinated population. But government must be stupid.

All I see on social media and here is people moaning they want [freedoms again]

We definitely have selective filters for me the loudest MN voices are the people who think controls must stay in place forever and be made harsher at a moment's notice because everything is becoming terrible again now plus the only acceptable level of risk = No risk.

Gloomsters & Doomsters, alright.

Pootle40 · 02/07/2021 13:26

Simple. We will need to stop isolating

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 02/07/2021 17:31

I think everyone just needs to crack on now.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 02/07/2021 17:37

@Pootle40

Simple. We will need to stop isolating
And testing people who are not ill.
