Track and trace calling every day?

DH has just returned from an overseas trip to an amber country. He took a call today from track and trace to remind him of all the rules he needs to follow (and to read a long speech from a script about data security). After the speech he told the caller that he'd had a call yesterday and been through all the same information. The caller said 'yes that's right. We have to call you every single day for the ten days'. I'm bemused by this. What's the point?? If he decided to break the rules and go out and about during this period, he wouldn't exactly tell them! (not that he will be going out). And it's not like they're giving him new information each day!? Could they be tracing the location of his mobile phone during these calls? If so, surely they would have to be up front about it. If they're not, what are they achieving? I could understand if he had missed a call one day and they called the next, but surely they don't need to have the same discussion with him 10 times...

It seems to be different if you've actually got Covid, based on our experiences on this thread.

If you or a family member actually have Covid and are ill, you get the invasive "I will mark you as uncooperative unless you submit to my invasive questioning" spiel. That's why I continued to take their calls when we were ill - I couldn't deal with the implied threat of criminal sanctions if I didn't "comply." Way to go T&T Hmm

If you're quarantining due to travel, you get a much nicer experience.

Having missed about four calls, DH realised last night that he's had his phone on do not disturb all week Grin.
Needless to say he's just had his second knock at the door!

Is it illegal not to answer phone calls or answer a knock at the door.

I've got covid and feel awful, I told one lady to stop calling me, she said she couldn't and marked me as I'm uncooperative. No one has come to the door, I won't answer either as I'm self isolating.

They are harassing me

@crayray

It all just seems rather OTT. I understand calling once or twice to make sure he knows the rules. Every day??
its to check he is actually at home, and the number of times he will be checked is limitless

But you could be in your car in Tesco car park and tell them you're at home and they would be none the wiser, 54321

it's so random isnt it. DD (15) recently tested positive. we all isolated in the household.(and told her cloase contacts ourselves)Took 2 days to even get a phone call from T&T and then I missed the call (I was attending a virtual court hearing as part of my job - senior nhs clinician- and could not leave it to take the call) I tried to call back but whoever I spoke to stated they couldnt take my details, or the details of dd contacts and I would need to wait for another call from t&t. another 3 days later t&t called and told us to isolate and took details of her contacts. This was by then 6 days after her positive pcr. Never heard from them again!!(thankfully)

no, they can ask you to come to a window or door, and they can locate the phone

I think the way they are harassing people is absolutely appalling. Unbelievable really.

Frazzled2207 · 09/08/2021 22:37

I wish they would just concentrate on people who were actually ill. And a couple of calls total to the HOUSEHOLD would be more than enough.

Not a single other country has spent anywhere near the amount we have on T&T. And as far as I can tell the vast majority of other countries are doing far better at it (covid, not necessarily T&T) than we are.
