Has anyone managed to get second jab early?

Just that really, has anyone gone to a pop up centre before the 8 or 12 week wait limit and got your second jab early? I’m 4 weeks since first and just want to get second now and get it over with, especially with all the talk of Europe not letting us in without 2 jabs.

What is the recommended gap between vaccines ? Availability aside

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 29/06/2021 21:39

Apparently the walk in centres were doing anyone over 3 weeks for Pfizer last weekend.

Hax · 29/06/2021 22:26

How old are you if you managed to do this? DS is 25 and got his 1st jab 3 weeks ago, 2nd not until end of August. I thought only over 40s could have less than 12 week gap?

Username7521 · 29/06/2021 22:33

Pfizer this weekend. 4 weeks between jabs. Went to a walk in where they were very happy to see me!

Parkandride · 29/06/2021 22:37

Thanks for the rebooting tip, just moved ours to 9 weeks apart instead of 12. Both early 30s

Workyticket · 29/06/2021 22:42

I was due my second at the end of july. We got an email at work last Friday to say our local centre had spares so dosens of us hot footed it over

Dogoodfeelgood · 29/06/2021 23:27

@TooManyPlatesInMotion

Yes. Mine was scheduled for 17 July and I had it a few days ago. There was lots of availability in my bit of SE London.
I’m in same area, wish I’d just chanced it at the pop ups last weekend now!

Okay thank you! Yes I’ve moved my NHS booking one earlier but it’s still 31 July - really want one like this weekend if possible. I’ll try a pop up clinic with Pfizer after reading these comments. I guess worst thing is they’ll just send me away, hardly the end of the world except a wasted trip!

I seem to remember originally they were meant to be 2 weeks apart and then they expanded the gap due to availability to get max population with 1st dose ASAP

@cherrytrismum

On our local group. The vaccination sites were literally asking if anyone wants to come in as they had loads of no shows and they have to through it all the end of the day.

People who do not show up for NHS app, costs it thousands and I think they should start being held accountable. Oh sorry I forgot, shouldn't wash and I honestly think people should be fined if they miss appointments. Other people could have taken that space, this is the reason NHS waiting lists are so long. It's free, so it don't matter if I don't turn up, scenario's. Jokers the lot of them.

@cherrytrismum I completely agree. I think people should be fined for wasting precious resources and time like that especially seeing as other countries are desperately in need of the vaccine. It’s so selfish and shameful.

My second was booked for two weeks times but I had an email on. Friday saying I could go to a drop in centre this weekend gone. They were very clear while we were queuing that you had to be at least 8 weeks from your first.

bigbaggyeyes · 30/06/2021 06:36

Yes I have. I got a text bringing it forward a day, but I couldn't make the appointment so I rang 119 and they got me in pretty much straight away, and into a place that was on my doorstep. I then got another text saying that I could simply turn up whenever I wanted. So I went in my lunch break. No queues either

Itsprobablynotcominghome · 30/06/2021 07:03

Also want to bring mine forward to 6 week mark.

Anyone been to Newmarket mass vaccination centre? Or work there? Don’t want to drive over if I get turned away.

JadziaSnax · 30/06/2021 07:07

Yes I have. There was a pop up vaccination centre near me offering AZ 2nd jabs and Pfizer both jabs. It had been just over 8 weeks since my 1st jab.

If you use Reddit, there's a subreddit called GetJabbed where people are sharing details of pop up sites in their areas and what vaccinations they're offering.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 30/06/2021 07:13

The first time I tried I couldn't, then the second time I managed to bring it forward

ASpoonfulofDust · 30/06/2021 07:14

I unbooked and rebooked and the only slot it would give me was 3 weeks LATER!

Peacelillyhippy · 30/06/2021 07:19

Off topic but the uk is still in europe! You don't need be let into europe, you are already in it.

adjsavedmylife · 30/06/2021 07:26

SE London here, I’ve been turned away due to 6 week gap not 8 weeks. I have an appointment for just over 8 so may need to wait…

adjsavedmylife · 30/06/2021 07:36

Will check out Reddit, thank you!

ThomasHardyPerennial · 30/06/2021 07:41

I just had my second jab, 4 weeks after the first. I assumed it was so quick because I'm in a surge testing area.

LittleMissA · 30/06/2021 07:53

DH and I both have our second jab today around 5 weeks after our first, both Pfizer and under 40. The drs contacted us to arrange it.

autumnboys · 30/06/2021 07:56

My husband got a text from the NHS inviting him to bring his second jab forwards.

xyzandabc · 30/06/2021 07:59

I went to a pop up walk in for my second. I was 7.5 wks after 1st jab (Astra Zeneca) but they were taking people anytime from 4 weeks after 1st jab. This was a few weeks ago and I believe they have now changed it to 8 weeks.

Stillgoings · 30/06/2021 08:02

Not walk in, but did change booking on NHS site. Mine was 8 weeks. My sister got 6 weeks. I don't think I'd want to go much shorter than that for AZ

TheRealMrsMorningstar · 30/06/2021 08:04

Pop ups here are saying you may only come if it is your first jab. However, both DH and DD were called early to have their second dose by GP (I'd already had both mine 12 weeks apart).
