How long did it take to come back?

I'm only a few days in after losing mine entirely (though there's a constant slightly weird smell in my nose) and I miss the taste of food! How long until yours came back?

I'm interested too. I lost mine on Friday it's driving me mad!

My son lost his sense of smell/taste last Sunday, and it's starting to come back today. He's very relieved!

Months. In fact, it's now some 17 months later and while it's 'back', I definitely don't have the tasting skills I used to have

Hi

I had covid last april I regained my taste after a week but I lost my sense of smell for about 6months. It just gradually started to come gradually.

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 28/06/2021 18:06

For me, taste was only out a few days. Less than a week.

Smell took longer — more than a fortnight but less than a month IIRC. It came back in increments.

(I wasn’t really measuring, I had covid super-early before much was being discussed re sense of smell so I wasn’t paying much attention.)

Figgyboa · 28/06/2021 18:09

One week for me. One week for my OH but his taste is off - garlic, onion and citrus.
My boss had Covid at the same time as me, he hasn't regained either taste or smell 6 months on

My friend had what she though was a cold early/mid March 2020 - she lost her taste. Never tested, but sadly a close family member lost their life to covid around 21 days later. It was only in May this year she mentioned her taste was coming back.

FlagsFiend · 28/06/2021 18:56

Started to come back after a week, but still not right 7 months later. Most things smell faint, some are non-existant. Some smell wrong and some foods I previously enjoyed taste and smell awful. I also smell things that aren't there, such as burning...

Garlic, onion and lemons are some of my issues too - cooking onions smell revolting, I used to cook a lot from scratch but the smell puts me off.

4 weeks post Covid and mine hasn’t returned yet. I get a tiny snippet of flavour with some things but it disappears straight away. It’s driving me mad!
DH’s returned after a couple of days.

Mayaspecialist · 28/06/2021 19:03

I had it late Feb 2020, it started coming back around April. But not fully, yet.

TreaslakeandBack · 28/06/2021 19:03

Just a few days, but double vaccinated when I had it.

BramStoker · 28/06/2021 19:38

My DH had it over 6 months ago and he still can't smell or taste a thing

It has resulted in a large weight loss as he has completely lost interest in food

His BMI is now under 20 and he looks gaunt and unwell Sad

DoubleDeckerSwimmer · 28/06/2021 19:39

Mine took about a week.

OliveTree75 · 28/06/2021 19:40

A week for me

Holidayhomeone · 28/06/2021 19:42

After about 2 weeks it started to come back gradually. Sense of smell took a while to recover fully

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 29/06/2021 08:05

Months! I had Covid in early November, completely lost taste and smell until at least February when it gradually began returning... still not 100% what it was...
