If you have been vaccinated and recently had Covid how ill were you?

I had Covid last April, I have had Long Covid for 14 months, it's been a shitter but I am mostly now better and other than cardio can live pretty normally. I am (sorry I was) really fit and healthy beforehand, no issues that I would have thought made me susceptible in any way to Covid. I was 36 when I got it. Spent one night in hospital and ended up with some heart complications which thankfully have mostly healed.

I have had one vaccine a couple of weeks ago. In theory I should now be well protected (natural infection + pfizer) but I am terrified of catching it again. It's no way to live but it made me so ill, the thought of going through what I have done AGAIN is just horrid.

Can you please tell me if you have had one or two vaccines (and possibly if you have had Covid and caught it again) how ill you have been and if it's turned to long covid? I need to get a grip and accept at some point I may well get it again but would LOVE to think it will be milder and ideally not use up another 14 months of my life.

And I am still thankful every day that I am here and it wasn't worse for me and my kids.

My DS best friends parents have it now. They have both had one vaccine. He thought he had hayfever. She had a tickly cough for a day. They feel fine!

There’s a report from Andrew Marr on the BBC News site about this. He caught it after 2x Pfizer. He was fully recovered by the time his isolation period was up.

Thanks @karmatime I will watch that, yes I had heard Andrew Marr has had it.

2 AZ in Jan/ March and had Covid in May. I had symptoms but very mildly and I was back at work the day after my isolation ended. I feel fine now.

I have just recovered from COVID and had Pfizer jan and April. I very rarely get ill , but it floored me and was quite ill. I had almost all the symptoms too. It just felt like I had flu . Lasted 8 days . I am Just tired now. It’s my last day of isolation today .

Wow @cheeselovesme I am sorry to hear that. I hope you feel better soon!

I think what is worrying is that many people still seem to feel really unwell with it even after a vaccine dose (or two). Yes, less people are dying or being admitted but I am obviously concerned Long Covid may persist...I suppose it is too soon to tell. I was acutely ill with sort of flu like symptoms plus breathing issues for about 3 weeks and then 'better' but then never actually got better just suffered multiple more debilitating symptoms coming and going for about 9 months and then gradually started to improve. I just hope that the vaccine protects against that for people as well as hospitalisation because otherwise with Covid rates as they are we are going to have a huge problem in terms of long covid going forwards.

DP got covid after 1 X Pfizer. Was quite unwell, In bed for a week, took him about 2 months to properly recover. I didn't catch it (had only had 1 jab at the time) I was pretty scared as still struggling with post covid sx from a year previous, but I was fine.

Cherubb · 28/06/2021 20:42

@athinginitself that's interesting...had your DP had it before as well as you? From what I have read having had Covid and one dose of vaccine is pretty good in terms of immunity but I am still reading about cases of reinfections for people that have had covid and the vaccine and still been unwell again which is worrying!!

@Cherubb We had assumed so as he had a cough at the same time as me, but he wasnt unwell in the way that I was, no breathing issues, no ongoing problems etc etc so it might have been that he didnt (he wasnt tested as this was back in march last year)

Cherubb · 28/06/2021 20:54

@athinginitself interesting, I am really glad you didn't get it again!

A lad I work with has had both vaccines and he's now off with covid anyway. We're all self isolating and he feels it was a waste of time.
