Still self isolating OBV but now he is negative in LFT. I am suprised its happened this fast - thought would test positive for ages

Why did he test again?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/06/2021 12:05

I don't think they can be relied on for am accurate test. I thought you weren't meant to test for 6 weeks after having covid?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/06/2021 12:06

Or were you just doing it out of curiosity?

covidcloser · 28/06/2021 12:08

He probably would if you did another PCR. The LFT is not for this purpose. It's white.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/06/2021 12:10

White?

RidingTheWaves · 28/06/2021 12:11

My daughter did daily lateral flow tests for 2 weeks - all negative. Then she had to have a PCR as her brother was positive on a LF and PCR.

Her PCR came back positive despite every LF she did in the 14 days prior being negative.

The day she got her PCR result, she did another LF. That was negative.

So... Hmm

covidcloser · 28/06/2021 12:11

*shite

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/06/2021 12:11

😂

HazyDaisy123456 · 28/06/2021 12:13

The LF tests are unreliable but why on earth was your daughter testing everyday? I thought twice a week was recommended?

RidingTheWaves · 28/06/2021 12:17

Requirement of her job.

EllaPaella · 28/06/2021 12:31

PCR are reliable, lateral flow only detect a small proportion of the most symptomatic cases and were really not meant to be used for asymptomatic testing and can't even be relied on to detect most symptomatic cases either (but I think maybe the owner of the company Innova was a pal of Boris and chums so got all
the contracts) so they are are total waste of time for most situations.
If he had a positive PCR then that is the right result- the LF will be a false negative.

High incidence of false negatives on lateral flow.

Orf1abc · 28/06/2021 15:02

The US have stopped using the LFTs we use in the UK. They're too unreliable to be of any scientific use (though handy for making people think the government are doing something).

HazyDaisy123456 · 28/06/2021 15:24

@RidingTheWaves I hope her employers are paying for the cost of these additional tests?

luckylavender · 28/06/2021 15:26

You shouldn't do a LF after a PCR

Fashio · 28/06/2021 17:02

@luckylavender

its only out of interest, don't worry > He is hardly going to run into a pub and breathe on people
