Portugal Travel end of July

Sorry if there are a million threads on this I did search. Portugal booked when it was Green. Flights are Ryanair so I know they’ll fly come what may.

DH and I fully vaccinated and kids under 12.

So I know we’ll have to do antigens or PCR.

Travel insurance sorted before we booked. It’s not a package holiday as we have booked SC somewhere we’ve stayed before and they’re generally not attached to holiday companies we can cancel 72 hours before and get money back less than 72 hours we lose our deposit.

Does anyone know if a country goes from Green to Amber what’s covered travel insurance wise re: covid?

Only people that can tell you are your insurance company! You need to contact them and see if they will still cover you.

ICECream821 · 28/06/2021 08:15

Ok thank you!! It’s Lloyds through our bank - we did update it etc and they said you’re right to update etc before booking a holiday

Looks like Portugal are bringing in 14 day quarantine for unvaccinated Brits. I see you and your husband are but i can't seem to find anything about children travelling to Portugal.

Realitea · 28/06/2021 09:27

I’m in the same position OP. We cancelled our accommodation and insurance. If they cancel the flights (jet2) there’ll be a refund.
You need to check with your insurers what their policy is.
I see now if you’ve had both jabs you don’t have to quarantine
I’m just thinking it’s not going to be an enjoyable holiday with all this and it’s not worth it
Horrible isn’t it

Realitea · 28/06/2021 09:28

Just to clarify we didn’t pay for our flights they were a gift so that’s why we cancelled the insurance

Mindymomo · 28/06/2021 09:32

I think you will find that your insurance will not be valid it travelling to an Amber Country. I’ve had a look a a couple of insurance companies and they won’t cover.

Medstudent12 · 28/06/2021 09:34

Stay sure cover you for amber countries.

Watapalava · 28/06/2021 09:45

Insurance end of July will be fine

If isolation rules are dropped as expected on 19 July then I expect the guidance will change to

Besides there’s many insurances that cover amber so it’s not really an issue

Watapalava · 28/06/2021 09:46

Kids over 11 must be vaccinated so Portugal excluding any families with teenagers

Can you please confirm where you got this information? thanks
Watapalava · 28/06/2021 10:19

www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/portugal/entry-requirements

Here states you need pcr above age 11 to get in

But that’s just to get in

To avoid quarantine once in, you must be vaccinated if over 11. It only changed at midnight so it’s been explained more in news

LaCerbiatta · 28/06/2021 10:22

Thanks but I still can't find anything re vaccination for over 11s to avoid the quarantine. Not even in the news. If you have a link, could you please share? We're travelling end of July and really need to clarify this.

ICECream821 · 28/06/2021 10:38

Thanks folks. I’ll phone Lloyds we did book when green and Lloyds did say don’t book anything until you’ve sorted out insurance - it’s the covid aspect really - trying to understand what would happen if one of the kids got covid. Also booked flights on AMEX

They’re discussing it a lot on trip advisor but locals all saying teens as with all unvaccinated must quarantine

They can get in to country with pcr but must quarantine

Seems very unfair -tho updates on 11/7

The official guidance makes no mention of age, therefore it includes everyone. They may change that - i.e. it may be an oversight, but as things are, unvaccinated
Watapalava · 28/06/2021 10:57

Yes came back to say that too

Entry and quarantine criteria differ

For quarantine it’s everyone unvaccinated

ICECream821 · 28/06/2021 10:58

So unvaccinated kids have to quarantine under the age of 12? 🤦🏽‍♀️

OP posts:
ICECream821 · 28/06/2021 10:58

They will change that

OP posts:
LaCerbiatta · 28/06/2021 10:58

Thanks. This will need to be confirmed by portugal. At the moment children are not excluded, just omitted. I would bet on a clarification soon that will exempt them from quarantine.

BunsyGirl · 28/06/2021 10:59

Malta require 12 and overs to be vaccinated so maybe Portugal are going to require the same.

Watapalava · 28/06/2021 11:04

It’s a worry

I’m hoping to book a last minute July or August but with 15/14 year olds there may not be anywhere I can actually go!

Watapalava · 28/06/2021 11:05

I guess it’s becausw the EU are vaccinating over 12

ICECream821 · 28/06/2021 11:40

Mine are under 12 so that’s not an issue. We could isolate when we get there as have a pool etc lol but would rather not.

I’m sure it’s an oversight and certainly U12s won’t have to isolate. As with anything suppose we have to watch this space!

No chance Ryanair not flying lol!

www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/portugal-quarantine-uk-holiday-vaccination-b1873702.html this article says it doesn't apply to under 12s.
