Has anyone travelled from an amber country recently?

What exactly are the rules?

I've read on the gov website and it seems to be , covid test before leaving, fill in passenger locator form, isolate for 10 AND take 2 covid tests. Is that right? Then what is the point of test and release?

If you're isolating why do you also need to have 2 tests?

Am I understanding this right?

Can anyone help?

Yep, I'll be coming to the UK for four days next month but I still have to buy the days 2 & 8 package. I might try and time the day 2 test so that I can use it for my destination country when I leave the UK. It's the rules, I'll follow them but it's a bit mad given that I'm fully vaccinated. And when I travel to and from the airport I'll be using public transport 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sonjadog, when you arrived in the UK, did it take long to get through passport control etc?

Note

It’s much cheaper if you can book a package holiday

Tui offer full amber packages for £50pp including

Lateral flow for pre departure from eg Greece
Day 2 pcr
Day 8 pcr

So all 3 tests for £50pp

No, I walked straight through as I was transiting to a domestic flight and there was no-one waiting at the transit passport control. But I walked past the normal passport control and there weren't long queues there either. Maybe the people there would have had a wait of about 20 minutes?

It's not a holiday sadly. Much nicer and easier if it was. Easier because we speak English fluently, can read the rules/sort ourselves out and can easily clear up any misunderstandings.

I'm looking to book a flight for my mum to come over. Guess we could wait another year...
