WOW tumbleweed. If this was about a member of the public who cant wear a mask we would be on at least page 20 by now.

True

You know, I wonder are the government actually trying to lower compliance? If people start demanding an end to isolations, masks, etc, perhaps that makes it easier to deliver?

Icantstopeatinglol · 23/06/2021 15:06

It’s a joke. Then there’s parents up and down the country not allowed to go and sit in the fresh air on a school field to watch their kids have their sports day. After the last year the kids have had it’s ridiculous. I can see why people are starting to get pissed off with the whole situation.

MarshaBradyo · 23/06/2021 15:08

Is this news today? I thought I had heard this before, maybe just the discussions

But yep it’s a bad look as schools isolate children due to one case

Orf1abc · 23/06/2021 15:13

I'd call this less of a cave in and more of a "please please come we'll do anything to make you happy". It's shameful considering all the sacrifices people have made, and embarrassing that we're so desperate to get people (normally the wrong people) to like us.

SorrySoldOut · 23/06/2021 15:17

this is old news

already been threads on it!

MercyBooth · 23/06/2021 15:17

And they are already gearing up to push the blame back onto the public.
From another thread.

Stephen Reicher, professor of psychology at the University of St Andrews told BBC Radio 4's Today programme the major problem with football was not people watching in the stadium but those at home not following restrictions.
"I saw data from Scotland yesterday showing that whereas two or three weeks ago the ratio of males and females, men and women, who get infections was roughly the same, now it is about three times higher for younger men and the obvious explanation for that is people meeting up at home, forgetting restrictions and infecting each other," he said.

Nothing new. The last Labour govt "caved in" to various Olympic athletes to give them tax exempt status to attend the London Olympics. Don't forget the Labour govt's "sweetheart" deals with various multinational firms to reduce their UK tax payments. This really isn't any different. "Big" decisions are often made at the highest level where they think the benefit to the UK is more than the detriment. This is one of those decisions.

ilovesooty · 23/06/2021 16:02

The government is saying that the arrival, monitoring and departure of the officials etc will be strictly controlled and monitored.

I'm interested to hear how they plan to deal with the spectators since the match will likely be between two countries on the amber list and England are unlikely to feature.

PinusSylvestris · 23/06/2021 16:04

Crazy.

I wonder if you’ve hit the nail on the head

They’ve waited every other time for people to shout asking for school closure, lockdowns, masks etc. So why wouldn’t it work the other way

newnortherner111 · 23/06/2021 19:25

I am disappointed in UEFA for not moving the games somewhere else. It might have helped a few more people realise that we have the worst Prime Minister in history.

I hope this is the case.

I think the timing about Barnard Castle and all that performance was to similar effect too. It was after restrictions began easing and a lot of people were pissed off at the element of "using discretion" when the majority had been rigorously following rules and often other additional layers for good measure (such as exercise time limits, defining local and wiping shopping). It was rather out of date at the point that the news broke.

It doesn't take much to make me angry about it all. I've been simmering and seething at the contradictions and stupidity of many measures for over a year now unless I've been in a numb, depressed state.

Notice how this time last year, media imaging was all carefully staged masks and unrealistic social distancing in classrooms. Now it's looking more natural. Including the hypocrisy of G7 mingling while it's too dangerous for vaccinated parents to be unmasked on a playground Hmm

aggathapanthus · 23/06/2021 20:24

You’re surprised because?

Againstmachine · 23/06/2021 20:45

@MercyBooth

And they are already gearing up to push the blame back onto the public.

It's scary how they are doing this and people are accepting it, it's our fault for mixing, even though government are sanctioning mass mixing

Nerdygirl · 23/06/2021 20:45

Wow as someone said people kick off at non mask wearers, people uncertain about the vaccine but don’t seem that bothered about this . Perhaps all that work with behavioural experts has worked well for the government . Shocking !!
