I'm reading lots about sore throat and cold symptoms - is that it or does it progress? What happens next? My cousin has tested positive and is incredibly anxious about what happens next. She's only got a sore throat and a headache at the moment.
TIA

I don’t think anyone can tell you what will happen as it varies so much. Some will progress to serious illness and some won’t and there doesn’t seem to be any understanding of why.

In our household 3 of us had it. Started as you described. It seemed to progress around day 4 when 2 developed fevers, 1 didn’t and just got a worse cold and headache for about a week. Of the 2 with fevers one started to get better after a few days and just got a mild cough. Other continued to get bad chest and cough but didn’t require hospital although o2 dropped a bit. Everyone better by end of isolation period, although 1 with bad cough lingered a little longer but wasn’t serious.

Ps you’re cousins anxiety may make her feel worse. Most people will have a mild illness and recover quickly, although mild still means it can be unpleasant. Try to reassure her that the doctors understand covid a lot more now and even if serious the hospitals are geared up and know what to do. People are spending much less time in hospital and there are treatments available now. If she’s worried about her breathing, then having an o2 monitor can be very reassuring. They don’t cost much online.
I hope she recovers quickly x

I’ve been wondering this too OP. Also a little confused that although the symptoms are more cold like - which sort of suggests to me milder than the classic serious cough / temp / breathlessness - they’re saying higher risk of hospitalisation.

Not sure how accurate it is but I did read an interview with a medic who was saying most of those who deteriorated with this strain appeared to do so earlier on , around 4 days in iirc.

Hope she recovers quickly!

Mild started mild progressed on day 4 to body aches lungs on fire unable to get out bed fever. I’m day 9/10 here and still in pain and have a fever. It’s been hell. Not to worry your cousin however everyone is different. My child has no symptoms at all.

Thanks all.

Heathrug - I hope you start to feel better soon. Have you been vaccinated?

@Stonelovelace

I still find it hard to believe there are people that haven’t had covid. Every man and their dog has had it around me. And symptoms varied. Thankfully no one died. Get well soon OP. You sound like me last Christmas Sad
I actually only know one person in 'Real Life', who has had it - was very ill in hospital with it for weeks on end. She's a sister of a good friend. I know 'of' others locally who have had it to varying degrees (including a death, sadly) but our area actually seems to have gotten off likely so far. Cases are definitely increasing of late though.

To add, we may have had it last March, DC2 had symptoms back when we couldn't get tested unless in hospital.

Thanks I feel awful again tonight. Fever and nausea. I was picking up too. I haven’t had my vaccine yet. Was due the first one soon.
