Are these symptoms? Am I meant to get a test? We’re away staying at an air b&b at the moment, not sure what the protocol is.

The symptoms to qualify for PCR test haven't changed:

Fever
Cough
Change to or loss of smell and/or taste

It does seem to be the case that sore throat is more common with Delta, but the government advice is still only to get PCR test when you have the symptoms above (or when you've been told to test by Test & Trace).

i had this and it turned into quincy throat.

More likely heyfever OP. My throat is like knives every single morning at the mo and I get ear ache & also itchy ears with heyfever, it’s very annoying!

Even my OH who isn’t a sufferer usually is feeling it at the mo, sneezing, itchy eyes, feeling a bit naff.. but an antihistamine makes it all much better .. maybe give one a try & see if it does? If not, probably isn’t heyfever but still fairly unlikely to be covid with just a slight sore throat. It could be but more likely isn’t I’d say..

If you can afford to isolate & test then do but I wouldn’t be for those symptoms personally.

If you have a temperature along with sore throat I would say get a PCR test, but I’ve got hayfever and my symptoms are bad throat.

ring 111 for advice.
could be an ear infection, which can be very painful and would need antibiotics.

@MrsMercury

i had this and it turned into quincy throat.
I came on to say this - it was the worst I have ever felt I couldn't even swallow when it was at its peak!

Have you looked at your tonsils? White spots would suggest tonsilitis. I've had the exact same symptoms with that in the past.

Quincy throat? New to me!

I had this, plus a heavy chest / shallow breathing. Went for a CV test. Negative. Better to be sure.

Throat infection affecting the eustation tube,

bigbaggyeyes · 16/06/2021 21:16

Sounds like an ear infection. I had exactly the same symptoms a few weeks ago. Did a Covid test which came back negative. GP gave me antibiotics which sorted it out within days

Sounds more like tonsillitis/ear infection and worth a call to 111 if you are away from home.
